What if... Ursula let go for a second?
So... This has legitimately been bothering me all day. My youngest sister (2) and I sat on the couch watching bits and pieces of The Little Mermaid (She's 2, I don't think I've ever actually seen her watch an entire movie all the way through... =_= )and I started thinking about the ending. You know, where she gets stabbed in the fracking gut and no harm comes to her other than deflating like an over-inflated balloon into... whatever the heck those miserable looking things she has are. And then King Trident gets his... trident, and crown back and all the merpeople Ursula had collected as miserable prune looking things went free.
So, in the way that I do, I started over analyzing a children's cartoon. Obviously the merpeople went free because she didn't have the energy or power to keep them bound to that crappy contract with her weird sea witch powers once she'd become a poor unfortunate soul herself, so they were released...
What happens when she has to take a nap, or got to sleep for the night? Then I got this silly image in my head:
Ursula stretching her arms out above her with a yawn. "All right boys", she demands her eels. "Shut the gate. Momma's gonna take a nap." Ursula slinks off to... I don't know where a sea witch octopus sleeps, their bedchambers?
The eels, I forgot their names, would gasp and hurry to bring down a mall store like gate over the entrances of the cave or whatever that place is technically considered. Them being eels, they wrap themselves around the gates to make sure to give someone a 'nice' little shock should they come near.
Ursula in the meantime would be starting to relax, tired of a whole day of... nothing. Today there was no annoying bright haired princess or any other mermaid or merman to come bother her, but the energy she used to keep them all under her command could really wipe a girl out. She she took regular naps to recharge. During that time, she lost her grip on the souls in her garden, which temporarily gave them their strange fishy human bodies back. Right up until Ursula woke up again.
Can you imagine the noise they'd make, hoping someone from the kingdom would notice that they're... I don't know... MISSING. It'd be something hard to miss, especially when they tried to leave, only to receive a shock from the menacing eels wrapped around the gates. The ones that would have been there for the longest time would still be curled down on the ground, hoping the Sea Witch would wake up soon and end the suffering of false hope.
~~~~~~
That got a little darker than I thought it would toward the end, but really... if everyone came back from being wrinkly living garden gnomes just because she became one herself, despite contracts she obviously always made, then if she fell asleep wouldn't it be the same/ worse?
That's my thought on it, what's yours?
