A Day To Forget

It was another pitifully horrid day on the rainy streets of Lincoln, the puddles rippling with every icy drop, the window pane making a satisfying putt! every time a pearly droplet bombarded against it as Ruby gazed out the window, her bright round eyes glazed over in deep and undisturbed thought.

Bzz! Bzz! Bzz! Bzz! Bzz! Bzz!

Ruby blinked a few times and looked over at her phone that was resting on her pillow. Messages from Leilani.
She smiled a bit, it was nice to hear from her girlfriend, especially when it was a secret.
She reached for her phone-

Bzz! Bzz! Bzz! Bzz! Bzz! Bzz!

It went off again making her drop it onto her pillow again.

'Hey! Guess what guess what?', Leilani's messages read, over and over.

'What?', Ruby replied, still a tad out of whack from her intense day dreaming session she just had.

'The woods aren't flooded anymore and the news says it's going to be dry for a week...', Leilani ranted, not appearing to have anything important to say.

'So?'

'What do you mean 'so?'? We can go camping like we planned to last month!! My mom says it's ok and she called the others moms and they say it's ok, so we are waiting for your verdict Rubes!', Leilani blurted, obviously excited.

Ruby paused a moment. It would be nice to take a week off school for some fun with friends, but then again, camping wasn't exactly her favourite.
If it was just her and Leilani it would be better but knowing her mom, it was out of the question. She looked at the messages and sighed heavily before replying a quick 'Okay okay fine, I will get ready.', to Leilani and then put her phone back on her pillow so she could start getting things ready.

Today hadn't been the best day, bullies being assholes and people just generally judging her, so while she slept tonight, she would just keep telling herself that this would be a day to forget.

Or so she thought.
