We turned as we watched our bus slip away into the darkness, captured by the night. I turned to face Sammy, her lips already a pale shade of blue as she pull her jacket closer to her shivering frame. "C'mon" Mr nisen said "we dont want to stay out here long"
I grabbed my backpack and thought of how we, a 2 students and 2 teachers had gotten ourselves into this mess, how the others had so quickly resented us and cast us out. I looked over at Sammy, she was a pretty girl with golden blond hair and green eyes, she didnt look upset or like she was going to cry, which surprised me. I didnt really know her very well apart from my english class two years ago. But instead of getting down and complaining, she looked, at the trees, at the snow, at the night, just like it was any other pleasant evening. She caught me staring at her and winked. Playful as ever, i felt heat rise to my cheeks and turned away.
After what must have been at least an hour, we stopped, the sun had began is decent behind the tree."All right, might be to time to set up camp" said Mr Nisen, I'll never understand how he is so calm, acting like its another camp prep. I s'pose this was as real a camp as it'll get. We were trapped in the forests of north- east china, hoping to cross into the russian border. We had been travelling as part of our schools volleyball team, and BAM! Just like that war had broken out, we all knew it was bad but didnt want to dwell on what would happen if we were caught, just the thought made a shiver go through me
