P.O.V. MYA

Tomorrow is a dreadful day.

Well most days are dreadful days but tomorrow is going to be the most dreadful of them all. You may think that I'm slightly overreacting but I'm not. Tomorrow is the first day of school. Not just any school but Westcott Prep where I am joining as a senior. Bad enough I have to move schools but at the beginning of the last year of high school!

My life is just full of nasty surprises such as this. After the death of my dad last year, my mum thought it would be a good idea to start afresh. And by that she meant packing up and moving to a new town, leaving the fast paced city of London.

Maybe for her.

I on the other hand had to say goodbye to my best friend and move to a new school where I know nobody and nobody knows me. I say best friend because I only ever had one friend.

Stacy. Stacy was practically my twin, my soul sister. We were alike in every single way and we were inseparable.

But no.

That's over now. I now have to experience joining a brand new school with new people, none of which are Stacy. I wasn't a complete loner, I always had books. I know how dorky that sounds and how insanely cringe worthy this is but books are like portals into other worlds. When I read books I love myself in them, feeling the emotion and effect of the words. I can honestly spend hours in a library reading all by myself in complete silence.

The library is the one thing I am looking forward to at my new school. Westcott Prep has the largest library in a 20-mile radius. Not even city libraries could complete with the extensive amount of books (also e-books, computers etc.) that the library contains. I could get lost in the shelves and spend hours reading undetected and undisturbed.

"GET UP AND GET IN HERE!" yelled my mom, who was clearly adamant in keeping me from the comfort of my bed and a good book.

"I'm coming, hold on," I replied whilst slowly trudging down the hall "I'm here now, what's all the commotion"

"Get dressed, we're going shopping in 15 minutes" spoke my mother, ever so nonchalantly, if there was ever a prize for saying the most unusual of things in a calm and relaxed tone, my mother would already own it.

"What!" my eyes stuck out at the thought of going shopping, we never went shopping, at least not together, "why?"

"You've got school tomorrow and need a makeover, this year you need to make friends and get out of your comfort zone, and I'm going to be the one that pushes you to make changes. Your dad never told you to how to dress and style your hair and to generally be more approachable and friendly. You have had your head stuck in a book for so long you barely know how to function around humans your own age. Trust me Mya, I love you, but if you keep reading all these books and not actually experience life for yourself, you're screwed. Now hurry up and change!"

I quickly changed out of my pyjamas into a pair of mom jeans and a grey hoodie and met her at the car. She rolled her eyes as she said "Seriously, you're wearing that? I'm going to have to buy you a new wardrobe if that is all you have to wear"

I rolled my eyes and entered the car as my mumstarted the engine. The worst part is that my mom is correct, I barely knew howto communicate to my other classmates and always dressed like I had just wokeup. Maybe a makeover is exactly what I need, to make new friends and possibly getan actual boyfriend, and who better to give me a makeover than my beautiful 35-year-oldbeautician of a mother.

Thanks for reading my first chapter this truly means a lot to me! If you want me to update more regularly or to continue this story, please comment or vote. I'm quite new at this so any comments and advice is appreciated, as long as they're not too mean. X
