Dan's P.O.V
I am sitting in the living room of our house with my hand-held game console. It's nighttime and my mother is in the kitchen cleaning dishes while my father is in his office working on a map for his next trip. I look around the room and sigh, this is a normal day except only too normal. I always wish for something new and exciting to happen or to at least have a friend to play with every once in awhile. I mean sure I have some friends but I only get to see them whenever my parents decide to drive down and visit them, they're father is a teacher of mine and his daughters are some what classmates of mine. Besides that I don't really go to school for three reasons. One is that I'm not old enough to attend school, two is that I live really far away from the only city in miles, and three is that I'm home schooled and already at the level of a third grader. The fact of only being three and called a "genius" just causes many times at home to be boring and dull. I go back to playing my game but a little while later someone knocks on the door.
"Who could that be?" I hear my father ask. Seems like he is done with his map. My father travels the world in search for who knows what, he always tells me that he is a monster hunter but I don't believe him.
"I'm not sure." replies my mother from the kitchen.
I see my father shrug and he goes to open the door. Soon enough I hear a loud thud like something fell on the floor.
I quickly get up from my seat and place down my game console. I soon hear my mother's footsteps and a gasp.
"What's wrong?" I ask as I near my parents. Soon I reach them and I see the door open and a kid that appears to be a year or so older than me, lying on the ground with his eyes closed.
"What happened?" My mother asks.
"I'm not sure, I just opened the door and the kid just passes out or something." Says my father.
"Take him to Dan's room and lay him on his bed, we can mend to his wounds better when he isn't lying unconscious on the wood floor." Says my mother. "I mean only if that's alright with you Dan?" She asks.
I don't say anything and just nod.
My father picks up the kid and takes him upstairs to my room.
My mother then closes the door and rushes to the bathroom, trying to look for any antibiotics and supplies to help the kid. She then takes whatever she finds and heads upstairs. Soon both my parents rush downstairs with their coats at hand and my mother with her purse.
"Dan sweetie, your father and I need to go to the pharmacy in the city and pick up everything we need to make that boy feel better. We'll probably be a while so take care of him while we're gone, ok?" She asks
I nod and wait for them to leave. Once the door is locked and the car pulls out the driveway I run upstairs into my room and head straight for my closet. I look around for a box which contains many books about medical procedures and a first aid kit that I created using the odds and ends that I could find. I take the box and set it on the ground next to my bed which the boy is lying on. I quickly get to work and do all I can to wipe away the dirt and blood that he is covered in. Once that's done I make sure to clean his wounds so they don't get infected. Lucky for me he only has few cuts and bruises, nothing major that requires stitches or stuff like that. I wipe the sweat of my forehead right after I place the last bandage that he needs over a cut on his right arm. I put away all the stuff and throw away the wrappers and such in a special bag. I take the bag and head down stairs and walk into the kitchen, I begin to look for a brown paper bag and a lighter. Once I have all I need I go outside to the back yard and place the brown paper bag on a pile of rock, with the special bag inside. I flick the lighter till a flame appears and slowly set the brown paper bag on fire, I quickly back away and turn the lighter off and watch as the paper bag starts to burn and turn into ashes. It takes a while but once the fire dies down I grab a bucket full of water and place it on top of the ashes and rocks. I place the bucket back in it's spot and head inside where I place the lighter in it's proper place, wash my hands, and head upstairs once more. I then open the door to my room which is almost completely dark except for the soft dim of the moon which gives a bit of light. I walk over to the kid and see he is still sleeping.
"Wonder where he came from?" I ask no one in particular.
After a while of sitting next to the bed and slowly falling asleep I hear a gasp coming from the bed which catches my attention and causes me to wake up. I slowly stand up and see the kid trying to sit up.
"Hey I wouldn't sit up just yet." I say softly.
The kid soon notices and his eyes widen a bit. "P-please don't hurt me, I did everything I could!" He screams.
I'm shocked at his sudden outburst but snap back into reality when he tries to stand up. "Hey you're still hurt, you need to get some rest" I say to him
"N-no I need to get out of here before they find me" he stutters.
I grab him by the shoulders. "Calm down would you?!" I yell and he gets quite. "Just take a deep breath and relax a bit, do you remember anything?" I ask.
He does as I instruct and begins to tell me everything. "I was told to fight this guy for his title and I did. I won but the guy got angry and he brought a couple of his friends with him, he showed up at my door and they told me I had to fight again and teach the guy a lesson. I didn't want to but they said they would do bad things to me if I wimped out on them. I couldn't take them out so I began to run, I ran out the city and out into the plains. I continued to run but stopped because of my injuries, soon I found this house and after someone opened the door it went all dark." He says.
"Ok back up, who is they?" I ask.
"My parents." He says
I sigh. "It's ok now, you're safe from them. No one from the city dares to cross city limits that leads to the plains so I doubt they would come looking for you." I reassure him.
He nods and lays back down. I remove my hands and grab on of the pillows and drop it on the ground.
"What are you doing?" He asks.
"Well I'm kinda tired and since there is only one bed here so I'll just sleep on the ground." I explain.
"No it's ok, I can move over a bit so you can sleep up here with me. Besides I hear a storm coming soon and I don't like being alone during those." He says.
I shrug and take up the offer, he scoots over and I lay next to him.
"Were you the one who took care of my wounds?" He asked.
"Yeah." I reply
"How old are you?" He asks.
"Three." I answer.
"Not bad for a three year old." He jokes.
"What about you?" I ask.
"I'm five." He replies.
"How is a five year old afraid of thunderstorms when the three year old he is laying next too isn't?" I ask.
"Touché." He says and I giggle.
"You got a name kid?" He asks.
"Daniel but Dan is fine." I reply
"Nice to meet you Dan, the names Xavier but due to my reputation on the streets they call me Spark." He says.
"The pleasure is mine, Spark." I say as I look up at him. He has fairly dark brown hair and murky blue eyes while I had oak brown hair and brown eyes.
Spark smiles and he wraps one of his arms around me. "Thanks for taking care of me." He says.
"Don't worry about it." I reply.
Soon enough we both fall asleep in each other's arms but I didn't care. I had a friend now and I was really happy, hopefully I can be this happy forever.
