Chapter 39- The Company.
"Wake up. Michael, wake up." Brooke whispered while trying to shake me awake. I shrugged her hand off of my shoulder, hoping she'd leave me alone.
"Leave me be." I grumbled with my eyes still closed.
"Your parents are coming soon to see Lexi, come on, get up, look lively." Brooke demanded. I cracked my eyes open and groaned.
"Seriously?"
"Yes. Stop being so grouchy and get a move on." Brooke scowled.
"You can't blame me. I've hardly had any sleep on this God damn chair. All I keep thinking about is Lexi and throughout the three hours I've had asleep, I woke up numerous times after having nightmares of my dead baby and the love of my life in a coma. And then to wake up and realise its not just a nightmare, but a reality aswell, you've got to give me a break." I stated bluntly. Brooke looked at me with sympathy.
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay, you mean well." I smiled. "And look, I'm getting up and getting ready just for you." I said. Brooke smiled before hitting me across the head softly.
"Sarcastic fu-" Brooke was suddenly cut off by the door opening and the sound of my mothers shrill voice cutting through the air.
"Michael." My mother gasped before speeding her way to me and capturing me in her arms. "Are you okay, darling?" My mother asked. I nodded my head against hers, hoping I wouldn't break down in front of her.
"It's okay, pal." My father came up and clapped my back, like he could sense how much I was trying to keep the tears in. I parted from my mother to give my dad a tight smile.
"Go and get yourself cleaned up, you look a mess." My mother stated. I gave her a glare before going up to Lexi and giving her a quick kiss on the cheek.
"Morning, beautiful. I would talk to you for longer this morning but the witch is here telling me I need to clean myself up because I look a mess." I chuckled while my mother gasped. "I love you." I stated before making my way into the next room to get cleaned up.
About ten minutes later, I was ready and feeling more refreshed. My eyes were red, puffy and bloodshot and the bags under my eyes didn't go unnoticed. I needed to shave and my hair was a mess.
I pushed open the door. My parents were around the bed holding each of Lexi's hand whispering sweet nothing's in her ear. She was still as white and lifeless as she was yesterday, which I hated to know. I was happy my parents were here, helping Lexi just as much as me.
Today, my heart felt heavier. Waking up and knowing nothing had improved with Lexi made my hopes disperse just a little. I know it was stupid, of course she wasn't going to improve over night, and I knew no change was better than anything worse happening.
"Come over here, love." My mother waved me over with tears in her eyes. Her eyes were red, so I knew she must have been crying. She was even dabbing her nose with a tissue.
As soon as I stepped across the room, the door opened, and this time it wasn't Brooke, it was Daniel. My body began shaking in anger, and before I could stop myself, I went up to his face in an instant. He was Jake's best friend. I hated my own brother for that.
"Were you a part of this?" I said, my voice cold, distant and deathly. I pointed to Lexi.
"No!" Daniel gasped. "Why the hell would I have been involved in Jake's crazy ideas. I never knew he was doing this, if I did I would have stopped him, you know I wouldn't have done anything like this!" Daniel continued while pointing to Lexi frantically.
