Kayla was hugging her knees to her chest, with tears running down her cheeks. She was indeed alone.  Her mother has left just the other day, reassuring her that everything would be fine. But it wasn't.

"Mom! Please.. Mom.. don't go....." Kayla begged

"Honey, I need you to trust me. You'll be fine." Her mother replied

"No! Please Mom, you don't understand, I need you," Kayla was desperate, willing to say anything to get her mother to stay.

Kayla ran up to her mom and hugged her. Her mom gave her a squeeze back, but it just made Kayla cry harder.

Later that night, Kayla awoke, feeling like something was off. Her sheets were sticking to her sweaty arms and she looked around her room. Moonlight streamed in through her windows, illuminating her desk. There were droplets of blood on her desk. Kayla blinked. They were gone.

Suddenly, there was a high pitched scream. It was her mom. Kayla bolted out of bed, grabbed her cell phone, and ran towards her mom's room.

"MOM!" Kayla screamed at the top of her lungs "MOM!"

There was no reply.

"MOM! MOM, PLEASE!" Kayla gasped, her voice getting hoarse.

Kayla ran to the door, of her mom's bedroom, and turned the doorknob. It was locked. Kayla desperately tried to open up her phone, but it remained pitch black. The battery was dead.

Kayla banged on the door until her knuckles started to bleed. Blood was running down her hands, staining her shirt that was already saturated with sweat. Kayla put her hand on the door, trying to push, pull, anything. All she did was leave a bloody hand print on the cracked wood. The crimson red glimmered with black. Kayla collapsed, and all she could do was watch the blood from her hand seep into the cracks of the wooden floor. She tried to breathe, but withing seconds, she passed out.
