Choices

The Beginning

He came after me screaming, "I'll get you, bitch just you wait!" I kept running. I didn't stop running until I got to her house, where I felt it was safe. I went onto the porch and rang the doorbell. She answered the door to a sad girl in wet clothes. She let her in immediately and gave her a bath and warm clothes. She asked me what had happened, I wasn't up for talking about it. We were both used to this sort of thing happening. "I'm worried about you, Lex" she said with that concerning look that I cannot ignore. I told her I knew and that I was sorry. That only fed the flames.

"No, don't apologize for him! You can't keep staying there, you need to get out of that house. I need you out of that house."

"Okay, I'm sorry. It's not that simple, B. He will hurt me I almost died this time. I don't even want to go back for my things." I tell her, near tears.

"I'll go back the-.."

"NO! DO YOU KNOW WHAT HE WOULD DO TO YOU? B, HE COULD SERIOUSLY HURT YOU. I would never forgive myself if I let you do it."

"Well, it's killing me to see you this way. I hate that your own father treats you this way. I love you too much to let you stay there."

"I'll call my mom in the morning and talk to her about it privately." I reassure her everything will be okay. I then tell her to get out of the bathroom so I could get dressed. 

After getting dressed, I join her on the couch and try to find something new to watch on Netflix. I sit there for a moment stuck in my own thoughts. I think about what he had done this time, everything he had said to me. I sit there as if I'm frozen. She shakes my shoulder saying my name. 

"Hey, you alright?"

"Yeah B, Sorry I'm okay. Just trapped in my mind." I admit to her.

"Come here, love." she says while gesturing for me to lay down on her. 

She strokes my hair and rubs my neck. She starts to hum melodies of her own songs. She soothes me and calms me. I want to stay awake, but I can't seem to keep my eyes open. The last thing I remember is looking at her gorgeous smile and saying I love you.
