It was a cold day, like always. The snow fell lightly on my shoulders as I walked through the park. My dog urged me to walk faster, but I kept at a steady pace, holding the handle of the leash tightly.

It' smelled of pine trees, this was a common smell me. I'm Dylan by the way. I'm a 23 year old college student. I live in Michigan, and I stay in quite a crappy apartment.

When I stop being a payed intern and get a real job I'll upgrade my living conditions.

I looked at the park I was walking in, everything with a light coat of snow covering it.

The park wasn't very occupied, but many people were laughing and playing in the connected ice rink. I sighed and sat down on a bench, picking my dog up and onto my lap.

"Buster, how's life going for you?" I whispered to the small havanese puppy in my arms.

(A/n: this is buster. He is inspired by my baby dexter (my havanese) and my moms old dog who looked like this who was named buster(she owned him before she got married and all that stuff ))

He licked face and I chuckled slightly. My side vibrated and I pulled out my phone. The text icon appeared and I smiled, responding to my friend that I would met her at the movies in an hour.

I observed the people around me, something I often do. One girl in particular caught my eye, I only saw part of her face, the rest shielded by her coat. She was staring at me in particular, her hands cupping over her mouth.

I got up and placed buster back on the ground, leading him in her direction. I reached the girl who looked about 17 or 18 and looked at her with a gentle expression on my face.

"Are you- are you okay?" I asked. She didn't say anything but instead hugged me around the waist. I tended up in shock, but soon relaxed and hugged her back.

"Why are you hugging me" I whispered. She chuckled and pulled away, her good now off.

Her eyes were a beautiful blue-ish green, and a tear was streaming from them to the bottom of her cheek.

"What's wrong, are you okay?" I asked in concern, she just shook her head.

"I'm sorry" she whispered. I furrowed my eyebrows and adjusted my coat, shivering a bit in he cold weather.

"For what?" I asked.

"I'm crying. I shouldn't be. You probably forgot about me anyway" she mumbled the last part but I managed to make out what she said.

"I'm sorry, do we know each other?" I ask.

"You- you saved me once, a couple years ago. I didn't get to thank you" she said, looking straight in my eyes. "My names Kate"

It all flooded back, that night. Kate. Everything that happened flashed before my eyes and quickly I hugged her again.

"Your safe" I said breathlessly.

"Yeah, so are you" she said.

"I'm just glad I really was able to save you"

"I can't thank you enough"

"Knowing I managed to keep you unharmed is enough payment already." My phone buzzed. The movie, I forgot.

"Look, I have to go meet a friend, but I want to talk more. Here's my number" I grabbed a price of scrap paper and scribbled my phone number on it. She leant down and played with buster while I did.

I handed her the paper and smiled belfry turning and walking toward the local theatre.

I received a text from Kate a few minutes after. I texted her back and put her into my phone as a contact.

After the movie was over I said goodbye to my friend and sent one more text.
