One blindingly bright day a teen boy named Oliver was snorkeling after school, like he did every monday, to calm down. Oliver picked his head up from the transparent blue ocean for a breath of fresh air and to clean his goggles. While hearing people playing the steel drums in the distance he dropped his breathing tube from his goggles. Submerging his head again, he saw all the bright pinks, blues, greens, and yellows complimented by the slate blue and grays of the rocks and creatures in the reef. A colorful spectrum of fish swim past chased by a dull gray hurt stingray, staining the water crimson.
Oliver lowers his bare feet onto the reef below him to get a breath to swim back to shore, but feels something cut open his foot. Oliver gets his head breaks surface filling his lungs with sweet oxygen and screams filling his ear drums and the stopping of the drums. Feeling something smooth jam into his calves knocking him backward into the murky lipstick red. His vision blurry and a foot in front of his face. Olivers arms fully ahead of him and sweep to the side while his legs kick until he's above the water. He sees a girl, about his age borrowing a lifeguard boat. He continues watching her till a concrete gray fin poking from the crimson water blocks his view of the girl. The creature continues to spiral in closer while his arms and legs begin to ache.
Once.
Twice.
Thrice.
The fourth time it passes the creature is not farther than 10 feet and the girl 30.
During the fifth time the fin submerges under the red liquid. The girl notices and rows like there's no tomorrow, because that might be the case for Oliver. He notices a presence under him when rows of jagged teeth dig into hip on his left side and up to his knee on his right It drags him under while he screams profanity. Suddenly it lets go as the water becomes a darker red. Oliver feels a hand on his waist as his vision goes black.
