It happened so quickly. They let off bombs left, right and centre. One hit the school, the walls shook from the impact, the glass broke and the children ran screaming out of the classroom. I stood there with the sound ringing in my ears. The shockwave hit, I fell forwards hitting my head on my desk, I flopped to the ground. Blood dripped from the cut on my head. As I lost consciousness I could see the blur of children in the halls panicking and falling until everything went black.

I woke up with no recollection of how long I had been there, I lay in a pile of rubble, the school had crumbled around me. My ears still rung, I slowly stood up and brushed myself off. I got out my phone from my back pocket and turned it on to see if it still worked, surprisingly it did it read 6:08 am Thursday. Three days, I had been out for three days. Then all of a sudden my stomach growled like an angry dog. I thought to check the canteen for food. I walked into the hallway it was still dark so I couldn't see that well, but I knew how to navigate these halls, well at least what's left of these halls.

I tripped over something and fell flat on my face. I shifted my body around and squealed. It was a young girl possibly eight or nine. Her eyes were life less, her skin was so cold and she had blood dripping from her ear. I turned her over and gasped, she had a shard of metal lodged in the back of her neck. A tear rolled down my right cheek and dropped to the ground mixing with her crimson blood. Poor girl, she didn't deserve to die, she looked so innocent, so helpless. I pulled myself away as tears streamed down my face. I ran into the cafeteria, my eyes blurry from all the tears, I couldn't see straight. I collapsed on the floor a loud sob escaped my mouth. What if I was the only one left, what if everyone else was dead.

I pushed my self off the ground and I walked into the canteen pantry. My eyes widened at the sight of the food and my stomach growled once more. I tucked into a packet of salt and vinegar chips the vinegar made me pucker, but it was so satisfying hearing that crunch as I bit down on the chips. I was enjoying my food when I heard a clang of pans in the kitchen. I wasn't alone. I should have stayed in the pantry but my curiosity got the better of me so I slowly got up and crept into the kitchen.

There she was lying on the ground life quickly draining from her eyes, her maroon school dress torn and soaked in blood. She is one of my year nine students I think her name was Samantha Reed.

"help please," she whispered. I rushed to her side I could see the pain in her eyes, she was covering her legs with a bloody blanket. I slowly lifted the blanket and gasped. The poor girl had a giant cut running from her hip to just above her knee.

I ran to the sick bay and rummaged around for the first aid kit. When I found it, I got out the wheelchair. I wheeled it back down the hall and into the kitchen, where Samantha had propped herself up against the cabinet. I fetched her a bottle of spring water because she was looking a little dehydrated. She jolted from the stinging as I put disinfectant on her leg.

"thank you." She whispered as I strapped her leg. Suddenly the room lit up with a bright light, it was coming from outside.

"they're coming!" Samantha exclaimed, I knew we had to hide. I wheeled her into the hallway and looked around to see if it was clear. I took her to the supply room, below the school to keep her safe.

We heard footsteps above, it seemed to sound like only one person. As the steps got louder I searched around for a weapon to defend ourselves with. I got to the bottom of a trunk and there lie a gun. A gun? What was a gun doing in a school? My thoughts were disrupted by the creak of the metal door opening. I hid behind a cabinet.

Samantha rolled over to me in her wheelchair and tackled me for the gun, resulting in her falling from her wheelchair with a thud. The footsteps came closer.

"Come out." Said Low masculine voice

Samantha crawled out from behind the cabinet and screeched "Drop your weapon!"

She yelled again in a shrill voice, "Drop your weapon or I'll shoot!" as she lay on the floor. The mans footsteps got closer and Samantha scrambled to her feet clinging to the cabinet.

"Drop your weapon." She said more steadily as she released the safety. The man didn't budge, so Samantha pulled the trigger and fired. The mans body made a loud thud as it hit the ground. She turned and looked at me with a humble grin. A bang rung out and Samantha's face filled with fear, he shot her with his dying breath. The gun clattered to the ground as she toppled over.

"No!" I screamed as I scrambled to her side, I pulled her on to my lap soaking my clothes in her crimson blood. She gazed at me with a pale face, her eyes were watering.

"it's ok," I hushed as a tear trickled down my cheek and landed on her nose.

"Be brave."
