"C'mon Eleanor let's go, we're gonna be late!"
"Alright one minute!" I yelled as I grabbed my cap and my speech and went out the door. My heels clicked as I ran to my best friend Danielle's car. I jumped in her passenger door and we drove to our high school (for the last time I might add). My other best friend Lauren was in the back.
"I can't believe it guys. We're graduating. We're free!" I said.
I continued to gush "we've been dreaming of this day for 5 years and now it's finally here"
"I think we might just be the most excited in our whole class seeing that none of those bitches have a plan for their life like us" Lauren added.
"And the fact that all of us got into our dream college makes it that much better!" Danielle says.
We pull up to where were we're supposed to meet. We all look super good in our caps and gowns. I literally don't think I could be more excited. We walk into a room full of people I hope I never see again in my life.
"Hello girls! Glad to see you." our principal greets us.
You could feel the tension and sadness as we're all together for the last time. Which, if you think about it, no matter how much I hate them it's still kind of sad. I mean I grew up with most of them. I had on a white sundress and my favorite sandals, my hair was in perfect spirals underneath the hat I thought id never imagined id wear. everyone else besides my friends looks like they're going to a strip club. But no surprise there. Someone yelled that there was five minutes until the ceremony starts. Deep breaths. I had a speech to give which I'd wanted to give since 6th grade and I was feeling a bit nervous.
"You'll do fine" my friends assure me.
" one minute everyone! Get ready"
This is it.
The day I'm free to do whatever my heart desires.
An hour into it I'm called to the podium. I begin my speech and can't help but tear up a bit. Dammit Eleanor now you look stupid. I finish and take my seat. After the ceremony we throw our caps in the air. My own symbol of newfound freedom. I find myself beaming.
I did it.
