I sit there, unable, unwilling. I'm covered in dirt, but some of the grime on my face is gone, where the tears had fallen. I lay my head back on the cold metal, and close my eyes. I'm so tired, but I rarely sleep. Even a tid bit is a treat, so I try to fall asleep, even if it won't work.
An hour later, instead of sleep coming, the horrible sound of the door creaking open frightens me. I know who it is, and think that maybe if I just pretend to be asleep, he will leave me alone, and I may actually be able to catch an hour or two of sleep. So I close my eyes, and lay as still as I can. "Get up," He says roughly. I just lay there, faking it, pretending. I feel the sharp pain of a slap with the accompanied hitting sound on my cheek, and I instantly open my eyes and move my shackled hands to my cheek. "Ow," I whisper.
"Shut up, and get up!" he yells at me. I'm about to cry, but I know it will just get worse if I do, so I hold it in. I tentatively climb to my feet, and start slowly walking to the door, to the light I haven't seen for at least a month. As I reach the door, he grabs my wrists, and rips the shackles off of them after unlocking them with his key. The light is blinding me, so I stop for a minute, until the searing pain on my back from another slap strikes me out of my allusion. I finally stumble out.
I see the light of day, and the sun, for the first time in what seems like months. I stumble over to another group of people. "Hi," one of the girls in the group says quietly. "Hi," I say back.
"What's your name?" She asks. "Mine is Ella. You can call me Ell," She smiles.
"Oh, hi, I'm Tiffany. You can call me Tiff," I offer to her.
"You look hungry," she states. I nod. "Over here is food for people who just came, so people like you. I can take you over here, but I can't take any food, unless you're gonna share with me. Don't, by the way. Never share with anyone. It's not smart," she says all this while leading me to a small kitchen, with some food laid out on every counter. I look at all the food, amazed that there can be so much, and all at one place, too. "Oh wow," is all I say. I grab a plate, and instantly start grabbing food, piling it on the plate. Ella just smiles, and walks behind me. Finally, when I have as much food as I can fit on the plate, I sit down in a little corner and start devouring it. "Slow down," Ell warns.
"Sorry. I haven't had to much food for awhile now. Can I save some of it for later? I know I'll still be hungry, but I don't want to eat so much that I throw up," Ella shrugs.
"Fine by me," I wonder how she can be so laid back in this place. Ella is completely covered in dirt, just like me, so I wonder if there is anything to rinse off with. Probably not.
