Janet Van Dyne's father is Vernon Van Dyne - a young inventor who fled Germany during WWII. He wasn't one of the best inventors but he did help the Allied Forces win the war.
Growing up in the late as a child in the late 1960s, Janet was always meeting new people especially, Hank Pym - a young prodigy just like her father. Hank Pym was ten years her senior and Vernon was very unapologetic over seeing Janet and Hank together, so he decided to send Janet to boarding school up until the age of eighteen.
While Janet was in Boarding School, Hank witnessed Vernon getting shot by one of Hydra's forces and kept it to himself.
