Come on, come on, I need to run faster. Shit that helicopter is really loud, thought they would send a more quiet one. Okay, Okay I need to run faster! As i'm running I can see the bullets whistling past me. My gear is beginning to weigh more than usual, feels like bricks. Their is a constant noise of foreign tongue screaming at me, and I have no clue what they are saying. I can see the chopper landing in the field and the dust and dirt flying threw the air. Okay, only a few more streets and I will be in the field. I'm racing towards the chopper and I can see the man in the bay of the chopper waving at me. Only a few more steps and this mission is over, this hell. I grab the man's hand, someone I have never met in my life, but in a single moment he gained all my trust. The man grabbed my hand is such strength it hurt. In that exact moment as I was stepping onto the helicopter two marines began to open fire behind me. The sound of the mini gun was deafening, as I stood up to shoot back at the people on the roofs I realized my clip was empty. The gforce of the chopper taking off in a hurry was outstanding, my face went straight to the floor of the chopper. We were on our way out of this hell I have been in for two weeks and my whole squad perished in that place. The mini gun was shredding bullets, the pilots were talking to each other and never seemed to stop. I looked at the marine that grabbed my hand and he had a grin on his face, that grin that a mechanic gives when he just got a car to start. Seems like he loves what he is doing, loves the thrill of this life. Out of the corner of my eye as all the building are flying by I seen a man on the roof, a distance flash. The grin of the marine slowly faded and as I looked in disbelief as a bloody hole was punched right threw the man. The helicopter did a sharp turn and the g fore tossed me back on the ground and I watched the marine slowly fall out of the bay. His blood was sliding around and his handprint was on the door he was about to close to the helicopter. I stood up and grabbed the handle of the door and with all my force slammed the door shut and locked it. The marine on the gun played around with the gun, putting a new belt on and repositioning it and he sat back down. Looked at me with a soulless look. A look that you see when something went wrong very quick, not understanding at the moment how to fix it, how to help. I put my hand on his shoulder and said "good job". He smiled for a very brief moment to acknowledge the complement. This moment is not foreign to me, i've been through this a lot in a week, even in the years. We are now heading back to a safe heaven..
( One week and two days before even)
Im saying goodbye to my wife, and daughter. With all my gear in a single bag, and stepping into the humvee with my friend felix driving. I wave goodbye to my family as the truck slowly moves away. Felix asks how I am and if i'm ready for this mission. I've been in this line of work for 10 years and i'm the best of the best so they say. Im part of a black ops team, a team I picked by skills, passion, and willing to think and not be the typical soldier that follows only his training. The brave men I chose 8 years ago have been the best, we go in the dark and get the mission done and come back home. I did not choose this life for the glory, or the thrill. I chose this life because crazy people need to be stopped, people who will kill their own to get presidency. Felix was the first person I asked to be apart of this team. He excelled at the training I tested him through, age 25 and he is my best friend, the one I can trust on anything. Level headed at all times, even in the worse of times when most people would snap.
We were driving south to pick up the others. We arrived at Matthew's house as he was standing at the gate of his driveway. Matthew was 27 and an ex airborne, was discharged for getting shot 3 times in the chest. The man still has a spark to fight, getting shot made him sensitive. He used to be a brute, going by his own judgement and always fired before thinking. Even Tho at the age of 20 he passed airborne class and was sent on 7 assignments, and promoted to command his own squad. The last assignment went south fast when his team got the wrong info on the person they were supposed to kill. Matthew's team suffered the consequence. Seven dead, and Matthew and a marine wounded. The marine never recovered and died overseas, due to the shrapnel of a grenade. Matthew almost died, but something kept that man alive.
Next to pick up as we proceeded south was Austin. He was at a cemetery not far from where he lived. He was saying goodbye to his parents who were six feet under. Austin had a pretty hard time in the last few years. Riot team served him well. Age 28 and had a body like a rock. Tennessee had a riot break out and protesting that lead to violence. Almost 2 years of bloodshed over beliefs. Austin knew his stuff when the bullets came flying. Very strategically minded, he led 40 riot soldiers on a last mission to end the uprising. Only five men were killed all in all. He knew how to make the most out of what he had to work with. With his sniper rifle Austin was a dead eye, could make a shot 5 miles away on a moving car.
Last to pick up was the engineer/ pilot. His name was Travis. He is 24 and had a skill that comes in handy. Travis grew up in the back roads of Florida and he spent a lot of time on cars. He built his own cars and fixed the town's cars for free, just because he could. Travis went to aviation school and mastered the flight of many vehicles. He served 5 years in the Marines flying offspys. That man flew threw storms, heavy fire, and was shot down. His last assignment before he joined our group he lost an engine to his helicopter and plummeted to the ground in a cloud of smoke, due to an RPG. Travis killed twelve terrorists with a handgun and was soon after brought back home in one piece.
This is the stories of the men that are in my team. The men who I rely on every second of the way.
( Arriving at the base in Florida)
Shit this place reminds me of old times. People running back and forth, helicopters launching and landing, and the small houses everywhere full of soldiers. Me and the men jump out of the truck and collect our belonging and walk towards the main building. Soldiers who were standing and talking to one another stopped and stared at us and began to mumble. I could make out what they said, "damn if they are here then shit is really going wrong". I opened the door to the main building and in a moment I can hear everyone talking frantically to one another. People are running everywhere with papers, screaming across the room to one another. It looked the stock room on wall street. Trying to make my way through the crowed of everyone I hear a voice yell at me. Marcus get your men up here ASAP. It's the commander and he does not sound happy. Me and the men proceed through all the chaos going on and enter a small room covered in maps, and computers. I told the men to put their stuff down for the moment and do listen up. The commander approached me and shook my hand. Marcus this is not going to be a cakewalk I promise you that much. The commander flagged us over to the war board and began to explain why we were summoned. Marcus this is some deep shit, and you're going straight threw it with sandals. He pointed to a small spot towards the top of Egypt and began tell us the story. There is an american there selling high grade weapons, tanks, missiles, and something in a large aircraft that we have no clue what it is. The commander pulled out some aerial photos taken on this large box being pulled out of the back of the plane. This is your only target Marcus, find out what the hell that thing is and report as soon as you find out what it is. We do not want to be sending an army into that place if there might be a large threat that could kill thousands. So we are sending your team in, be our eyes and ears over there. We don't know what to be expecting, they keep shooting down out drones, and they only move at night. I looked at the men to see if they understood what was going on. They all understood and were ready for anything to happen. The commander flagged me outside and said our chopper was waiting on us. The men and I saluted the commander and grabbed our stuff and proceeded outside to the helicopter that was already running and was waiting to go. Felix looked at me once we all got on board the helicopter and said this was a very bad plan. Austin agreed with him and said that this could go south very fast. I looked at my men and said " I know this is not the best of plans that we have gotten in the past, but if this man is harboring something like a nuke, millions of people can die. We need to find out what it is and safely" They all agreed with a slight doubt on their faces. honestly I was right there with them, I did not like the idea of this at all. No intel of that was happening over there or how many are there. When someone is covering their footsteps to not get caught by the world's leading power. That's a very scary thought... little did I know what hell we were about to go into.
Chapter 4, Hell hole.
