Breakfast in the apartment

I wake up in my bed in our New York apartment I stare up at the ceiling and the brick walls of my room I sit up looking around my room, "I can't believe we can't afford money to get a nice home" I think to myself. As I look at my room my sister Kate calls, "Jonny wake up its time for breakfast!" why does she have to call me Jonny? my names Jonathan if she didn't notice for the past 22 years.

I get up and get dressed in my shirt and overalls, I fix my hair and go downstairs where I see my sister smiling at me while she's making breakfast,"morning" she says smiling at me, "good morning" I say to her. she hugs me and I hug back we both let go and she continues to cook and I sit down and read the newspaper.

"Hey the military are wanting more men to recruit, should I join?" I ask her looking up at her,"no" she says shaking her head,"you just got here and I need help around the apartment" "but Kate if I join I can help u get money to help with bills or maybe a home instead of an apartment"I say looking at her nervously waiting for her answer. "but Jonny there are so many other jobs you can get" she says. I stare at her eyes and I see she's tearing up "and it's to dangerous you could get injured or killed, and your the only family I got that lives around here" she starts to cry and I get up and hug her. "I won't get hurt because I'm your older brother and I promise you that I'll be ok" I flex my muscles in a tough guy kind of way, she laughs a little and goes back to cooking.

After 15 minutes of silence I turn on the radio to listen to what is happening. all the radio talks about is sports and last nights baseball game and how they think next weeks game will be like, then it talks about the weather and about strange rocks falling from the sky, that buildings were damaged a little, and how the government will try to contain and fix the damage. "what does it mean by contain?" I mutter to myself thinking hard, "what could the government be doing out here looking at rocks and fixing damage? I change the radio channel and it turns on to the news of the war going on, Germany is taking over France, I listen closely about what's going on in the war, which could give me a excuse to join the military.

"Jonny breakfasts ready!" she says right next to me which scares me, "what was that for?" I asked still surprised, "because you made me scared" she's says laughing. "ok cmon lets eat breakfast" she says smiling, and we both sit down and eat, while listening to the radio and they switch it to music and then kids entertainment. I smile as they tell the story and adventures of the cartoon characters. my sister rolls her eyes smiling, "your such a child" she says, theirs no point growing up if you can't be childish sometimes" I say smiling, we finish our breakfast wondering what will happen today.
