Ever since I was little I could see them. They would never hurt me, and I don't know why, but they would always cause harm to the innocent. Meaning my fellow class mates. The demons would never attack on school grounds, but I would see these attacks happen walking home from school or to school. I soon found out that the school was a sort of safe haven from these demons. The students soon figured out these attacks happened only when I was around. Ever since grade school they avoided me, saying I was "the Absol of the school" (Pokemon reference). That I brought nothing but disaster.
I never had parents. I never had a home either. My home was the hush lullaby of the woods, and the warmth of the night wind. It was no luxury, but I didn't complain. I was grateful for what I had. But my home wasn't here with these students. No, I belonged somewhere else, and everyone knew this including me.
That's where my parental guardian comes in. His name is Mephisto. He took me in when I was seven, from my no-good city in the US. And that was the single, best day of my life. Though I had to remain a secret, for reasons he never told. When I hung around his office and a visitor came around, I would hide in a little hidden compartment he had along his wall.
Since he was always at the academy, I was always learning. I learned so many languages, theories, equations, formulas, lectures. You name it, I've learned it. I always snuck in through the air vents. That is until I hit puberty. Before, I could easily slid in through the vents, but now. Now I've got wider hips, a bigger butt, and bigger breasts. It sucks for hiding.
That's when I was twelve. Mephisto figured I couldn't be held a secret from the academy anymore, so he enrolled me as a protégé. And in a way I was. There wasn't a single class in the city that I wasn't interested in. But my favorite was combat types of classes, ballet, and the secret cram school though I couldn't join quite yet. I heard that there's promising exorcist was named Yukio Okumura. I asked Mephisto about him, he said he's special like me, and has a twin brother. When I asked what he meant by about special, he simply asked what I wanted to eat. That's what he always did whenever I asked about a question I wasn't suppose to. He'd change the subject.
I turned fourteen last year, and that's when my life changed. That's when demons began approaching me. They never did before, but now they're being very aggressive. Saying things like "we're sorry your highness" or "your uncle asks for you". But they never got close, they always held their distance, close enough to intimidate me. Though I never understood why'd they called me "highness" and mentioned my "uncle". But like usual, I'd never receive any form of an answer.
I began taking ballet, combat, archery, seriously and began going to the gun ranges. I wasn't going to let a bunch of demons get the best of me. Not then, not now, not ever. And when the time came for me to go into cram school, I would study my butt off. Within a few months, I was considered one of their best students in the class. But really, that's how every class is.
I'm turning sixteen in a few months. The demon encounters only seem to multiply. They're never interesting though, they're usually small, incompetent demons. Mephisto has asked me to begin training with a sword, saying I will be a natural. "As natural as your demonic cooking?" I had asked. Again, he didn't answer my question. I'm very well aware he's from Gehenna. I've always known.
I know now the reasons he never answers any of my questions though, he wants to protect me from the dangers of the demon world. He says my parents never wanted me to visit the likes of Gehenna. Again I asked a question, you knew my parents? He only replied with "they're the best parents you could ask for". But I don't see how. They were never around when I was a kid. I fend for myself, yet their all of a sudden parents of the century?
I'm not mad at them, i just don't understand their reasons. And I probably won't, not with Mephisto's answers anyways. If I wanted to get answers, I'd have to look elsewhere.
But lately, Mephisto hasn't been around as much as he use to. Always out watching fights between demons. I would beg him to take me with him, to see a real fight in action. Again he would try to protect me.
But tonight, tonight is when I'll finally see one. No he didn't agree with me going. But I'm going to sneak me out. I've pulled some strings here and there with the equestrian club, and they let me borrow their fastest horse.
