BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! The sound of my alarm bolted me awake. 8:00 a.m. I rubbed my eyes and stared at the time, until I realized it was the morning of my first day of 9th grade. It was all new to me still. I went from hot, sunny days on the beach, to basically winter all year long. Connecticut was basically the capital of boring.
I stepped out of bed and made it quickly. My mom told me the bus would be at the stop in 45 minutes and that I needed to "manage my time" if I wanted to make a good first impression. My moms the type of person who cares more about what I look like then I do, but wouldn't ever admit to it. I slipped on my light-wash denim shorts and paired it with a grey halter top. I grabbed my white cardigan and laced up my hightop converse. I figured jewelry would impress my mom at the least, but it's not my thing.
The bus picked me up 10 minutes later, just as I finished brushing my teeth. I stepped foot on the bus, and a rush of loud talking, different conversations, smells of everything you can think of, and unfamiliar faces hit me. In the back of the bus I saw Danielle waving me over, pointing to the empty seat beside her, her long brown hair waving out the bus window. I've known Danielle since I was 4 years old since we went to preschool
together when she lived in Florida and our parents stayed in touch after she moved. I love her, but she's the reason we moved out here and I'd do anything to move back. ANYTHING. I walked over and sat next to her. I've never rode a bus to school and it was all new to me. The bus arrived 15 minutes later and I couldn't wait to get off. I could barely breathe, and my claustrophobia was getting to me. Around 30 people piled off the bus, all urging to be released. As soon as I got out I looked ahead and there stood the school I'd be attending for the next 4 years. Part of me wanting to run away at that second and the other part of me rushed with adrenaline, anxious to start. The bell rang and I walked to first period through the halls of hell.
Little did I know, the heartthrob of the whole school, would be right before me in 6th period. Grayson John Warner would be the highlight of my life for the next 10 months.
