The Job Of A Grim Reaper
Being a Reaper isn't easy, but it's the job we have to do until our time has been done. It's kinda like what humans would call jail and prison for when you're alive, but we aren't alive anymore. I wouldn't call it the worst thing ever but it certainly isn't your cup of tea, it has it's touching moments like when you witness a miracle or something sappy like that. Not always though, the one thing that really sucks about being a Grim Reaper is having to watch a tragic death, and then having to collect their soul in your record book, it's not something you exactly look forward to everyday. Me you ask? I don't mind it. What you think everything I was saying was my own opinion? Nah that isn't really my style, in order to really give me the feels you have to have something really heart wrenching. Which rarely ever happens in real life, it's more of a realistic death that happens each day, those don't bother me and they probably didn't when I was alive either, so i'd like to think.
Let's get down to business I'm Hollow, my partner you say? 'Whatever I'm Maze I'm a female just so you know.' OK that was weird just taking over narration. She sticks her tongue out at me and crosses her arms. "Very mature Maze." I drone sarcastically. "Kinda like you when you lose a soul, now can we get to work?" Yep our work during a normal day consists of this, now when she talks it will be proper.
"Right me proper." Maze rolls her eyes sarcastically while leaning on the side of the wall in our base. Each Grim Reaper gets to design a base, you know like your hideout or whatever but you have to make sure you collect your souls and turn them in, or else you get demoted and your Death Scythe gets... smaller. Now when that happens it's embarrassing, I have a friend of mine that got his Scythe taken away and was given two little scissors, let's just say I will never him live it down. Now enough of this boring narration, lets get business.
"Maze who's the next target?" I ask walking to get my Scythe. "Uhh their name is Kevin Tony." Wait that name seems kind of familiar, maybe I've seen him before- wait!
Suddenly flashbacks of something flood my mind, A girl that looks like a child me with a boy my age playing, "Kevin! Kevin! Come back here, Ed's waiting for us back by the lake!" I watch what seems to be a younger me call for him, her raven black hair flowing with every bouncing step she took. Her emerald green eyes sparkling with youth. I know who that is I also know who he is now, I know who they all are. This place is where I grew up and Kevin and Ed or Edward were my best friends. My god this was my childhood, something I couldn't remember since I became a Reaper. And now he's supposed to die, this... Wow I never thought I would ever get emotionally compromised about a simple soul collecting.
I'm snapped back into reality by Maze talking, I didn't even see us transport to his neighborhood. "This should be easy enough he seems like a weakling."She say's boredley hanging off her large lawn clippers that the she has as a Scythe. "Don't say that about him!" I shout pointing my Reaper Scythe. It's black blade shines menacingly in the dark of night, its bright almost neon green lining zig-zagging along the blade pointed at her dead on. Shocked she sporadically raised her clippers at me in defense, the moonlight sparkled also on it but in a weird way, her bright blue handles and dark maroon lines swirling around them. Death Scythes are supposed to represent the Reaper themselves, that's why they are so special to us. They mean a lot to us because of how unique they are to our personality, it shows in a weird way your 'soul' per say. "What was that for Hollow?" Maze shouts at me. I lower my Scythe as does she.
"I'm sorry Maze... I just, he was my best friend when I was alive, I-I remember him and Edward." My voice is a whisper as I look into his bedroom window, watching him reading at his desk. Maze looks at me sympathetically, then looks with me at Kevin. "Do you think he will do something to change the world? Or something? I... don't want to..." I feel tears threaten to spill over, but no not going to let that happen. "I understand what you mean, but there's only one way to find out Hollow." I nod my head, and with that we spent a month observing his actions, that's our job we make sure the person lives if he/she has a purpose in the world. The only thing I can do now is hope, that there's something... something he's destined to do.
