There's always the question that I get asked: "なぜあなたは自分自身に話すん? (Why do you talk to yourself?)" Honestly, I have an imaginary twin. I formulated him when I was only three years old. Sure, I'm fourteen and everyone says that imaginary friends are for little kids. In my opinion, imaginary friends and/or siblings are for all ages. It all started eleven years ago.
"ママは、なぜ私は弟を持っていません? (Mom, why do I not have a brother?)" I asked.
"私たちはあなたを望んでいました。他に誰もいません. (We wanted you. Not anyone else.)" Mom replied.
"私は弟が欲しいです! (I want a brother!)" I shouted.
"いいえ。(No.)" Mom said through gritted teeth.
I stomped to my room. I was just plain mad. I slammed the door and sat on the floor pouting. Then it came to me. I can pretend I have a brother. Use my imagination. I imagined him as a twin. He has brown hair, brown eyes, likes music, is always there for me, and his name is Len. I saw him with my own eyes. Precisely the way I imagined him.
"リン、こんにちは. (Hello Rin.)" Len said.
The first words he said to me. Throughout the years, we grew up together. Celebrated the same birthdays, went to school together, sang duets, played games, wrote songs of our own. Sure, nobody else could see him, but I could. That made my life so much better having an imaginary brother. My friends always tell me their injuries from fights they get involved with their siblings. They tell me that I'm lucky to be an only child. Len and I, we don't fight. We care for each other. We are the perfect set of twins.
