"Behind you! Lauren!" Avery shouts.

I heard them approaching, there they are. Silent as beetles, a man stepping towards me.

More followed, coming from behind the trees and bushes from a distance. Under cover of the rain and fog, the pack had stalked in, unseen, appearing from three directions. I don't know what they are, I'm sensing vampires, but it's hard to tell with Avery's thoughts in my head. She needs to relax and if she doesn't, she needs to at least get out of my head. Some carried knives and clubs and chains, others didn't have any weapons; just like me.

One continuing to walk towards me, stopped in the middle of the dirt, 30 feet away from me. "Okay Lauren. We are done playing this game with you." He roared. Squinting my eyes at him, trying to appear tough when in reality I am terrified of his next move.

"Lauren what do we do?"

"What do we do? Do you mean what do I do since you're helpless and can only read minds?"

"Can we please save the attitude for a time when we both aren't about to die in 0.2 seconds?"

"I'm not sure what to do. Let me think."

"Well, you clearly don't have enough time because he's getting impatient with you."

"Just yell now when you hear him decide he wants to make his first move."

"Lauren, hand it over now." He demanded. Huffing out the cold air, the rain starting to pick up above our heads, I looked down at my necklace. What is it about this necklace that is causing me running and my death? What is the importance of it?

"Lauren now!!" Avery shouted, bringing me back to the man lunging himself at me. First instinct was to use my speed and jump out of the way, but I didn't have enough time to act on that instinct. He wrapped his fingers around my neck, strangling me.

"Give me the necklace Lauren." Staring into his dark eyes, hands trying to pull his off of my neck, I shook my head no. What he doesn't realize is I can't take the necklace off. Every time I attempt to take it off, these weird small electrical currents run through my body, causing me to stop.

He pulled his knife.

"Lauren I told you I was done playing games with you. If you want take it off, then I will take it off for you." And in one swift motion his knife comes in contact with my throat slitting it open. Screaming in agony, swinging my arm around to punch his hand, knocking the knife aside and wrenched loose. I skipped back, clutching the long shallow cut on my throat. "Not hurt. I'm not hurt. This will heal."

The man picked himself off the ground, his knife five feet away from me. Both looking at the knife, we raced to the object, swiftly grabbing it before he could manage to. Standing in fighting position, knife held out far in front of my body, ready to attack when needed, he smirked. He reached down into his boot, another knife was in his boot. Not for throwing like the one I had in my hand. This one was for killing up close. He stood across from me, knife in his hand, a smirk plastered on his face. Kill the leader and the others might scatter. But in order to kill the leader, I have to kill the man standing fifteen feet in front of me.

"For a well known hybrid, I was expecting a lot more from you. At least a decent fight. Yet, here we are. You cowardly standing behind a knife, not sure what to do." He let out a chuckle. "I really did think that this was going to be a lot harder than this. I was sadly mistaken." Our eyes staring into one another, trying to figure out the next move.

"Now."

As the command was called out, the supernatural pack immediately lunged themselves towards Avery and I.

"Lauren do something!" Within seconds I transformed myself into my werewolf form. The pack coming to a halt. Snarling at each one, they all seemed confused on their next move. They all knew that if they get bit by a werewolf, they're done for; as did I. Using this paused moment to my advantage, I charged towards the closest vampire, pouncing on top of his body. Looking into his colorless eyes, he knows this is the end; he tried pushing me off of him, but werewolves are much stronger than vampires, I didn't budge. Leaning down to the crook of his neck, I hastily bit him; swinging myself around to face the other six. The leader is nowhere in sight. Where did he go?

Forcing my mind to the pattern my attackers wove, trying to spot the leader. I danced a path through the vampires, breaking bones with my strength, biting them where ever I could manage.

"Lauren turnaround!" A club cracked down on my shoulder with a thump, sour, swelling pain. Falling to the ground, rolling in the mud dodging a boot, I grabbed a club from the ground and swung it towards my attacker.

Avery screamed.

Looking up from where I lied, Avery was being pulled from both directions between two vampires, as if they were trying to rip her arms out of their sockets.

I had to get up. Standing on my feet, shaking my head, trying to see through the downpour. I staggered through the lifeless bodies scattered on the ground, the fog and pain.

Grabbing the club from the ground, darting the club at one of the vampire's heads, hitting him in the temple. He held his head in agony, I played with the other one's mind, causing him to release Avery and hold on to his head. Screaming in pain.

Sprinting from the two vampires, panting, her thoughts inside of my head.

Realization hit me. He was standing right in front of her. "Avery stop!" I yelled. She turned around to look at me but it was too late. He had her.

Held her in his arms. "Lauren give me the necklace."

"Let her go!" I shouted back, over the rain. He smirked. The same smirk from before. "I said let her go!"

"Lauren I want the necklace."

"You aren't getting this necklace. I'm not giving it to you. For whatever reason you want this dumb piece of jewelry and I'm not handing it over."

"Lauren I will go to desperate measures for this necklace. Don't tempt me."

"If you don't let her go. Then" What will I do? How to convince him to let her go. My eyes wandered to besides me, the cliff. His eyes narrowed at me, "I'll jump off the cliff." He let out a deep chuckle, challenging me. I was really hoping he wouldn't challenge me because I'm not going to jump off this cliff, I could die.

Wait.

I'm immortal.

If I jump off this cliff, then it will look like I plunged to my death. With the necklace. What do i do with the necklace?

"I'm serious. I'll jump if you don't let her go."

"I'm afraid you're going to have to live by your words Lauren."

"Lauren no! Don't do this!" Avery shouted, her eyes letting water flow out. I ran over to the side of the cliff and peered down, yikes this is going to be a long fall. I turned around to face them one more time, "Lauren please don't do this." Ripping the necklace off of my chest, hurling the necklace in the opposite direction of my fall.

"Noo!" He yelled, watching the necklace plummet down the cliff. He looked back at me, anger filling his face.

Smirking, I leaned back and allowed gravity to bring me to the ground.
