Fanfic covers in AFF vs. Fanfic covers in WattPad

Alright, this is the first ever opinion post in my whole fanfiction author career. I don't normally voice out my opinions, except in Facebook or Twitter. To me, sometimes it's better to not voice out some opinions in such social media accounts, because it's either super embarrassing (due to revealing a little part of yourself to those acquaintances your silly pre-teenage self have shamelessly added back in the day), extremely irrelevant to some (let's face it, not all your Facebook friends like everything you do), or highly offensive in some way. Even so, I just get this itch to at least tell one person about what I want to say, and it's absolutely frustrating to not be able to, especially when it's something that excites me.

Therefore, I have started this little (will it grow to a big, fat book? Not sure) book to file away my opinions to, yep, strangers. Yeah, I know I'm weird. Though, I guess said strangers will become friends one day; I don't know. The future cannot be told.

As I write this, I have the photoshop file open for the book cover of my new (or old, depending on when you read this) book, starring Hat Films' Ross Hornby, with a playlist of Panic! at the Disco's songs playing in the background. I had just spent eons searching for the perfect face-on photo of Ross, something that consisted of him just staring at your soul with a stoic expression -- or, rather, what was close enough to it, because the photo I found still had a corner of his lip tilted up a little (plus, the photo wasn't of great dimensions, but it'll have to do).

Let's rewind a bit, to the part when I was probably on page 4, or something, of Google images, despite not knowing where I was because Google doesn't use pages anymore for images. At this point, I was near to giving up, because the image I really wanted for my book cover was thought to never show up. Even so, I continued to scroll through more and more in order to find the perfect one, or even something close to it.

It was also at this stage where I started to compare my experiences in making book covers for my AsianFanfics stories, opposing to book covers here, in WattPad.

AsianFanfics is a website, much like WattPad, where fans of Asian idols are able to post up fanfiction of their own. It's pretty much like WattPad, honestly, but the slight difference would be the audience. To this day, the point when I am writing now, I have been a member of AsianFanfics for five years (and still counting!), though it wasn't until about two years ago was when I started making my own book covers for my fanfiction stories in AFF.

Creating book covers have slowly become easier and easier for me the more I make them, however it's still pretty difficult to search for photos to use in creating them, especially when you have an idea on what it should look like.

However, finding photos for book covers for AFF is so much easier than finding photos for WattPad book covers. Well, I guess it would be because I'm writing about YouTubers, and there's a limited amount of photos of said stars, so it's difficult to make WattPad book covers. You would be considered lucky if you found the absolute perfect photo for whatever book cover design you were going for.

I guess it's because YouTubers do not have photoshoots of themselves, unless absolutely needed. Though, then again, whatever photoshoot photos of the YouTube stars have don't even get released. They're, instead, used for the thumbnail photos of videos. In comparison, artists have photoshoots and said photos are published out to the public, save for those truly embarrassing ones that are, instead, deleted and never to be seen again.

I think my whole point of this post is to subtly (I'm not very subtle now, at this point) suggest YouTube stars to post still photos of themselves, posing in various poses and showing different expressions, or have a photoshoot and publish them out to the public. It would be so much easier to create book covers then, haha!

I doubt that'll happen though, but I can hope!
