Standing there, waiting for the bus to arrive. A man walks past, wearing torn clothes and smelling of rot. I frown, I reach out and say
" Excuse me sir." He turns around and looks at me shocked.
I reach into my pocket and hand him $100. He shakes his head and tries to hand the money back to me.
"You keep it. You need it more than I do." I said with a soft smile.
He smiled at me, " Thank you very much."
He slowly walked off, not taking his eyes off the money I gave him. The bus pulled up and I got on. The bus driver asked why I was talking to the homeless man, trying to start a conversation. I told him I saw how he looked and smelt and if I was in that situation how would I deal with it. So I gave him $100 and he seemed to appreciate it.
The bus driver looked shocked, " You gave the man $100? Why?"
I simply replyed," Well if you were in that situation wouldn't it be kind and helpful to get $100? You would be able to feed yourself and maybe buy an outfit to help you work."
The bus driver nodded and just drove. When it was my stop I got off and thanked the bus driver.
