Chapter 1 The Gift

The sky was unusually dreary today seeing as the forecast for the weekend said sunny for everyday. Eridan walked along the sidewalk next to his happy and giddy friend,Feferi,whom was skipping along humming a tune he'd never heard before. 'Probably somethin' her elder sang to her.' He thought to himself as the sky roared with thunder. "C'MON -ERI! ITS GONNA START RAININ SOON!" She whined grabbing his hand and began to jerk him along the sidewalk. "Wwait! Fef,hold on!" He pulled his hand from her grasp feelin quite uncomfortable with her touch seeing as no one had given a kind hand to him in a while. "Um...you should run home,I don't wwant you to get soaked and my house is just a few blocks from here,I knoww a short cut." She shrugged it off. "OKAY,BUT CALL M-E IF YOU
N-E-ED M-E!" She said before pulling a small umbrella out of her backpack and speeding off down the sidewalk. A small smile tugged at Eridan's lips as he watched her run through the starting of rain. Feferi was the only thing he liked more than the sound of rain. He began to walk in a different direction feeling the rain fall down harder with every second that passed. He was in no rush to get home though,the rain was comforting however Cronus actually has time to worrie about Eridan unlike his father who was always busy. Speaking of Cronus,doomsday just called. Eridan took the phone from his pocket sheltering it from the rain with his other hand,wiping the rain from his glass lenses he read the blury words 'Cronus'. Answering the phone a voice that was evidently speaking Russian,it was something they did because ever since they moved here their mother had insisted that they never forget where their from. "Cro you don't havve to speak to me like that you can talk perfect English." Cronus dropped the Russian. "Actually,your English is better than mine so buzz off!" "Wwhat are you calling me for?" "It's almost 7:00 vwhere are you?!" Eridan sighed. "I wwas taking a small wwalk in the rain." "Chief,this is not a movvie get your *ss home." "Wwhy should I?" "Dad's got somethin' for your 'special day'." Cronus said in a stupid voice just anger him more. "I'm on my wway." Was the last thing he said before hanging up.

Eridan walked through the open front door of his house closing it behind him,the rain had died down earlier just enough to give him a bit of time to dry off. Though his damp ginger hair curtained his face he made his way up to his bedroom seeing a box on his bed. Setting his backpack down he found a small note on the lid.

"Dear son,
I had to work today so I brought you a birthday gift from me and your brother,be kind to him. Be careful with this gift it's very delicate,and don't reck the house while I'm gone. Thank you,and happy birthday.

Love,Dad."

How sweet. Eridan lifted the lid on the box to reveal a small yellow shivering blanket. 'Is this a joke?' Was Eridan's only thought. " I swwear by all the gods if this is a furby." He whispered to himself. He reached his hand in feeling a bit of warmth coming from the small insignificant ball under the yellow blanket. Pulling it back a little every second revealed one of those small troll pets he'd always wanted. He hesitantly brushed his ringed fingers through its hair,breathing in the sweet honey scent emanating from it. "Hi there." Eridan whispered in a calming voice. "Howw are you cutey?" For the first time in a long time,Eridan was smiling,only it now wasn't because of Feferi. The troll had a tail that split into two and wore a pair of small salmon coloured pants and one of Eridan's shirts with a Gemini symbol on it. "Sollux,that'll be your name." Right as he'd said that aloud Sol's face nuzzled into the palm of his hand. "Yeah buddy,I like the name too." The trolls small hands clutched a bee plushy. Only Eridan had noticed a few scars on the poor things body. "Rough childhood,huh? Hm,don't wworry,I'm takin' care of you noww." Sollux's eyes fluttered open,sitting up he looked at Eridan revealing his blue and red bi-coloured eyes. Eridan was in awe of this,holding back the erge he had to hug the small troll. "2oowowow!" "You'vve got a lisp too,aww that's adorable!" Sollux placed his hands on both side of Eridan's face sniffing and rubbing his wet nose up against his face. Eridan had read up on this and this was Sollux's way of saying 'you're mine now.' Sollux couldn't seem to stop staring into his violet coloured irises. "You like them? I wwas born like this." Violet irises were a birth defect that came from his fathers side of the family where as Cronus got his mothers crystal blue eyes. "Ababvoo!" "Uhuh." "Abubavoo!" "You don't say?" Eridan just went along when Sollux licked his cheek. For troll pets it was a term of endearment. "Aww,I lovve you too buddy." Sollux gave him a deranged look before trying to speak again. "A-Ah lav yoo!" Eridan sat there translating his words into 'I love you.'
