Chapter 1
Numb was all that I felt. I never wanted to be in this situation, yet here I am. I trudged my way through the doors to the infirmary to be met with the stench of disinfectant and white dressed figures wandering aimlessly through the halls. My luggage was torn from my hands to be checked as I was pulled towards some kind of office. I was told to be seated and to wait patiently till the doctor came. As I waited I took the time to take in my surrounding. It was a fairly plain office, not much to say about his personal life. I sat in front of a large wooden desk with little notches everywhere, which I assumed was from the years of use. I was sat in a overly comfortable leather seat, a few yards away was a tall standing book case filled to the brim with psychology books and little trinkets here and there. I was snatched from my thoughts as my doctor walked in.
" Good morning miss! How are you feeling today" he spoke as he started to sit in front of me.
I groaned as he said his final words, just another typical therapist.
" Just peachy" I replied
" Well that's wonderful to hear and I hope it stays like that. Now you will be staying with us for a few weeks while we keep an eye on you after your recent... behavior. After those weeks are done we will decide if you are in need of further treatment. Okay?"
" Just wonderful" my voice hinted sarcasm
" Now that's the attitude!"
Well I guess he didn't catch on. We finished the rest of my appointment, which I will continue daily at precisely three P.M. and not a minute late for who knows what might happen, I mean being here is punishment enough right? After we finished I was ushered into my new room. I was simple four wall room with a window a cross the hall. I want allowed a private bathroom in fear that I would cause harm to myself. I was to use the public toilets and showers across the way. My small suitcase was sat at the edge of my bed. I closed my door and went to unpack.
I wasn't allowed a phone or any kind of electronics, I didn't mind that much mostly because no one ever texted me anyways but I was happy that I was still allowed my few books that I loved oh so dearly.
I decided to lay down a rest for a while, I was told that lunch would be served within the next hour and would be notified with a chime over the intercom. I didn't want to go but knew I had to I was warned that if I didn't go I would be punished, I would normally risk it but I figured I would play nice for my first day here.
After some time passed I heard muffled chimes through my door. I groaned as I got out of my new bed. I walked out to be meet with other mindless drones filling the hall making their way to the dining area. I was supposed to go to a special area that was under heavy watch to make sure that ever one ate. This room was for the... special cases like myself. I made my way to the small area and got in line with the others. I was stood behind a young man a few inches taller than me, he had short hair and dressed in casual jeans and a plain t-shirt. He looked straight ahead looking as enthusiastic as I did to get our food. I started to walk forward only to step on the back of his shoe.
" Of course" I muttered to myself as he turned around to face me.
He looked as if he was ready to say something but a look of surprise sprung across his face. He studied my face for a few seconds before he finally said something. I held my breath for the insults that I thought for sure were about to come.
" Are you new here?" I sighed in relief.
" Umm yeah just got here." I muttered
"Well nice to meet you, umm you can sit with me yeah?"
"Uhh sure it better than sitting alone I guess."
" Cool just follow me then, I don't have many friends here I tend to stay by myself but I sit with a few that I've made here, I hope that's okay with you,"
" Yeah that's fine"
He turned back around as the line kept going. I reached the counter to be greeted by artificial smiles worn by the hostesses serving us. A PB&J was placed on my tray followed by some apple slices and some carrots and a cookie. I grabbed a cup of water and followed my newly made friends to an empty table and sat myself across from him.
We sat in silence for a while just staring at our plates no intention of eating what's in front of us. After a while he finally spoke, much quieter this time.
" They make us eat and then we have to sit here for a while so our food can digest but sometimes they us go if everyone eats with out a problem. So, if you eat its better."
I sat there playing with the crust of my bread thinking about what he just said weighing my options before a taking a small bite of my sandwich.
"There we go! I don't know where my friends are but sometimes they sit with other people so it might just be me and you today" he said with a smile.
I nodded before answering, " It only fair if you eat too" I said half heartedly while looking him in the eyes
He gulped before taking an apple slice and shoving it into his mouth. " Is that good enough?"
" Perfect."
After chewing and swallowing it he started to speak.
" So what brings you here?"
I looked up fearing that someone would ask me this. I stared at him with my mouth open slightly as my memories flooded my mind.
