Jack POV

It wasn't the knock that surprised me, it was the fact that knocking didn't stop. I hadn't got up at the first knock, thinking it was just a local telling me my food was here, or a kid doing it for fun then running away. So I fell back asleep.

Then the knocking became constant. It rocked the whole house. Whoever was doing it wasn't going to stop any time soon.

So I fell out of bed (literally. I've got a bruise to prove it), put on my face mask, sunglasses, gloves and beanie to hide...myself, then ran down the stairs. Once I reached the door, I threw it open. "GO. AWAY!" I screamed at whoever was there, not bothering to look at them, before slamming the door in their faces.

I was about to walk away, when the knocking resumed. I screamed, my veins glowing green from my anger. Literally ripping the door off its hinges, I got right into the persons face. "What?!" I said, the word dripping with venom. The man in front of me didn't flinch, his hand still raised to knock on the door.

"They said you were scary, but I didn't think you'd be rude as well" he said, lowering his hand to his side. I moved away from him, to see who came knocking at my door. He was tall, but not as tall as the two people behind him. One was only an inch or two taller than him, but the other, whoa, he was a giant! Definitely over 7ft 6. The man in front wore glasses, and his head looked like it had been shaved about a week ago.  The middle-height one I had noticed was a woman, her long brown hair accented by her purple bangs. The tallest guy wore a bear hat and had a bushy dark brown beard. He smiled at me, something I had not seen for many a year. It made me want to slam the door in the faces. But I couldn't. I just had to destroy it. Again. Now I'll need to find something to cover it up again.

"What do you want" It was less of a question and more a statement. Whoops. "We wish to talk with you" the bespectacled man said, shifting his glassed slightly "see if we can...make a deal.". I glared at him, though the sunglasses probably covered it up. "I don't make deals" I told him. The only deal I had ever made was the one with the townspeople. They give me food and supplies, and I leave them the fuck alone.

"Well we're not leaving until we do" the bearded one replied, crossing his arms, though still keeping that smile on his face. Ugh.

I snorted, then left them by the door, walking into a pitiful excuse for a living room. A couple of mangled lawn chairs and a moth eaten sofa, with a leaning bookcase in the corner. With hardly any books. They walked in, and when they saw the seating, stopped. I sat on the worse chair out of the two, hearing it crack a little bit more. I waited patiently for them to sit down, staring at them through my sunglasses.

Finally, they sat down, the girl taking the other chair, and the men taking the sofa. The leader (or at least I think he is) looked around, while the bearded one rearranged his hat. The girl meanwhile, stared at me, unblinking. I was used to it, so it didn't bother me. She gave up after about a minute, realising that it wasn't creeping me out.

"So...you're probably wondering why we are here." the main man said, looking towards me. The other two looked at me as well, following their leader. "I wonder many things." I spoke, shrugging, "though that has come to mind.".

"Well" he said, removing his glasses to clean them. "I own...a circus. A freak show, to be accurate. I travel the world with my band of mutants, providing entertainment to...'normal' people, for lack of a better word. But I also give a home to these freaks, giving them a place where they are accepted, a place where they aren't ridiculed because of how they look. I want you, to join my show." he tells me, replacing his glasses. He waits for my reaction, and I can tell from his eyes that he's hopeful. Poor sod.

I laugh, long, hard and loud. The girls flinches, and the bearded man stares at me like I'm insane. You have no idea how close I am getting buddy.

"Me? Join your-BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" I practically screamed, the chair cracking beneath me. He lifts an eyebrow. "What's so funny?" he asks, looking genuinely confused. "I'm not just a freaking, I'm a damn monster. If I go to you freak show, people won't want to come near it. Why'd you think I'm in a crappy place like this?" I answered, gesturing around at the rotten floors and the split ceiling.

He doesn't reply, he just keeps on staring. "I am a monster. If I took this stuff, you'd see. But I don't want to scar ya" I tell him, pointing to my face.

"It can't be...that bad" the beard man said, leaning forward. I laugh again. "Fine, but it's your nightmares" I reply, taking off the things covering my hideousness. Once they are all off, I watch their reactions. The girl looks like she wants to cry, and the bear guy looks like he wants hurl. HA! Serves him right!

However, the leader, or perhaps ringleader, his face is stoic, serious. He stares at my eyes, then my hair, my teeth, my veins (which are still glowing slightly) and finally my nails. There is silence for a minute, as what they see sets in.

"That is indeed...interesting..." he says, getting up. He walks around me, looking at me from every angle. "But you shouldn't doubt yourself. You may be...a 'monster', but you can be surprised. It's amazing what people will pay to see monsters...".

It's my turn to raise any eyebrow. He sits back down, putting his elbows on his knees and leaning forward. "Even if people...don't like you, I still want to you in my show. You could help out, doing odd jobs, cleaning, cooking. That sort of thing. Lord we need someone to do that." he says, looking me right in the eye. I turn away from him slightly, staring at one of the walls.

What if I did go with them? I'd have three meals a day, a roof over my head, plenty to do. And who knows, maybe they'd actually learn to deal with my ugliness.

Or would I rather stay here? Slowly rotting away, wasting my life?

I turn back to him, a smirk appearing upon my face. "Fine, you've twisted my arm. I accept your offer." I said, crossing my arms. He nods, smiling like he's got what he wanted. The bearded man smiles, though it's different, one that says he's worried, but glad at the same time. The girl claps her hands, and fist pumps, making them laugh.

"Oh, how could I forget. My name is Bob, though my show name is Muyskerm. This is Ken, also known as Bear hugger." he says, pointing to the man next to him, who nods. "And that's Michelle, show name Minx" he finishes, pointing to the girl, who waves.

"Jack" I tell them "The locals like calling me Septic as well.". This makes Bob laugh. "A fitting stage name." he replies, leaning back.

I get up, scratching at wear the mask rubbed my chin. "So...when do you want me to start?" I ask, stretching. He smirks.

"Right now"

A/N: UGH. THIS TOOK FOREVER! Seriously, I've been trying to write this for like 3 days, but it just wouldn't come out! Dx

Anyway, here's Bob and two of the 'freaks' =D I've always thought of Ken as really tall, even though he might not be in real life. And Minx is silent in this btw, because I have no idea how to write her XD

This will now become my main story, Snippets of the Past will not be placed on the sidelines. Idea's for it have kinda run dry...though it is NOT cancelled! Updates will just be coming a bit slow...

Anyway, it is not quarter to 1 in the morning where I am now, so I'm going to bed once this is published.

Hope you enjoyed this chapter! And until next time,

Byes!
