Life is tough, but you have to push through. But today, I just want to stay in bed. I'm just not up for starting a new hellish day at a new hellish boarding school. But I have to. I normally ride the bus. But only when I live there. So today, I walked. I just hate having to wear these stupid uniforms. This one was black pants, black dress shoes and a white shirt. I feel like I'm going to a funeral.
When I get there. I stand at wrought iron gates. They are open, but I dare not step through. But I have to, or I'll be sent there again. I look down at my note. First period, math with a Mr.Tanaka. My locker is across from my math class. I grab my stuff and then I'm stopped before I get in the door. "Hey, new kid, give me some money, or you can't get in the door." I just shove myself past him and read a sign on the teacher's desk. Seat yourself wherever you like. I run to a desk in the back corner of the room by a window. Five minutes feels like five years. When the bell finally rings, there is an empty seat next to me. I hear a door open and close.
"Grell, you're late. Again." I look up to see a person with long red hair is standing by the door. He is wearing a red coat over his uniform. "You need to stick to uniform regulations." He flips his hair so it frames his face. "I checked, there is nothing wrong with coats." He flashes an psychotic grin. Mr.Tanaka sighs. "Just find an available seat and be quiet." Grell slings his bag over his shoulder and sits down next to me. "You are a new kid aren't you? Sorry about Alois, he's basically a man whore. Gimme your schedule." I unwilling hand it to him. "We have the same classes, and the same dorm. I knew that they paired me with a new kid, but I would've never guessed they would pair us this much." "Pay attention Grell!" After awhile class was finally over, but this Grell guy won't leave me alone. "We're in the same classes. So stop ignoring me."
I don't make eye contact with him. I just keep walking to the computer labs. "Hey, the computer labs are in that direction." Grell grabs my shoulder and points in the opposite direction. "I knew that." I mumbled. He keeps trying to get my attention. "Can you please tell me your name at least?" I look at him. "Sebastian." I say sternly before I continue walking. "Oh! Hi Will! I didn't know you had computer tech too!" Grell stops the very tidy looking man. "It's William. I had that class last period. I forgot to grab my glasses." I look up long enough to see which lab I was supposed to be in. "Bassy? Where are you going?" He chases after me. "To class." He laughs and shakes his head. "When was the last time you actually took the time to know someone?" I shrug and sit down to log in. "Why did you call me Bassy?" He sits next to me and spins in his chair. "Because, Sebastian is so formal! Oh yay! Red! You are in this class too? Come sit next to me." A girl dressed in all red comes and sits on the other side of Grell. "Your wearing the coat I made you? I was sure that Mr.Tanaka would take it away."
The day went by very slowly during the rest of the day. At lunch I just wanted to be alone with myself. But Grell had other plans. Why won't this dimwit leave me alone? What does he want? "Bassy, come sit with us!" I see him at a table at the center of the lunchroom. At that table was Red, Grell, a short boy with an eyepatch, and a white haired kid with bangs covering his eyes. I reluctantly walk over. "Hi Bassy, this is red, Ciel, and the undertaker." I just sit and eat my food. "Can he even talk?" Ciel says. "Yeah, but he's just shy!" I decide to talk, why not? "I thought we had uniforms." I say to Red quietly. "Yeah, I'm getting another detention." She says as she eats. "So you can talk. That's surprising." Ciel says. Is this kid in middle school? "Aren't you supposed to be in the middle school wing?" Ciel looks at me with a very bored facial expression. "No, I'm just smart, you probably have mush for brains." I punch him. Seriously? I'm not even done with day 1 and I'm going back there.
I run through the empty halls to the stairwell. I don't stop until I find my dorm. When I open it, there are two beds, one has red sheets on it and multiple photos on the night stand. The one on the other side of the room. It has plain grey sheets and my suitcase on the bed. I shove it off and sit on my bed, head in my hands. I don't want to go back. I don't want to go back. I keep screwing up. I can't go back there. I just can't. I'll do anything not to go back. I just can't go back. "It's not even your first day and your already skipping." Grell says. I don't even realize that I'm crying. "Hey, don't go all emo on me." Grell says as he pulls up a chair. I give him a sarcastic "Ha!" I look up at him. He is spinning on an office chair cross legged like a little kid. "As far as the teachers are concerned, you got lost, and I came looking for you." He moves from the chair to the foot of my bed. Is Grell a girl or something? I move a little bit further away from him. "Don't make me go back." Grell looks at me confused. "Bassy, your gonna have to go back to class sometime." He realized that I don't mean school. "Oh."
He stands up and walks to his nightstand. "I have a box of sick passes for emergencies. He grabs one for each class and writes my name on them. "I'll take these to each teacher. So you don't get in trouble. Just lie low, and don't touch my stuff." He walks out of the dorm. Leaving me in the dark. Alone. Why is he being so nice to me? Especially while I'm being so mean to him. I just don't understand. I wish I didn't hit Ciel. I don't want to go back there. I sit there and cry a little for some amount of time. Suddenly there was a knock at the door. "Hey Bassy! Dinner." Grell says as he walks into the room. He grabs my arm and I wince. "Sorry." He lets go and grabs my sleeve to pull me away. "Come on lazy. They have cheesecake for desert today. I don't want to miss that." The button on my sleeve cuff rips, revealing bruises and scars on my arm. I pull my arm away. "Don't mess with my shirt." I say as I button the sleeve back up. "Sorry." He says as he puts his hands behind his back. "Do you want to talk about it?" I shake my head. "Do you think I'm going to keep pressing you about it?" I nod. He stops.
"I'm sorry for ripping your shirt. Red can fix it during dinner." He doesn't keep moving. He just stares past me. "Come on. You said it was cheesecake night." I grab him this time. But he doesn't budge. I see where he's looking: red is making out with some dude. Grell runs off towards our dorm. When I finally get to him, he's sitting on his bed fuming. It's my turn to ask him. Then I notice a photo. It is Grell and Red holding hands. The frame is surrounded with hearts. "We were dating since middle school. Then she cheats on me with Claude!" He says between angry grunts. He chucks the photo at the wall and it smashes. "Do you still want to go have cheesecake?" He shakes his head. "I'll have to sit by that whore. She didn't have a shirt on! In the hallway. With him! The same hall my dorm is in!" He sheds a few tears. Poor guy. He was in love and she had sex 10 feet away from his dorm. "I'll sit next to you so she can't." He sniffles. "Really?" I nod. He stands up and blows his nose. "Ok."
