I don't really remember anything from summer 2000, pretty much because I was five months old. This also applies for summer 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. The only stuff I know about those years is what my parents have told me, which is basically that I was a pretty boring toddler. All I did was draw, and sometimes I sang with my dad, when he used his guitar and played his favorite Bob Dylan's and Cat Stevens' songs. Good times.
I do have a memory of 2005, and I'm not sure why I remember it so clearly.
"Sarah!" My mother called me from the kitchen.
"Yes mommy?" I asked while watching my little three years old brother, Thomas, stick some Play Doh up his nose. My other brother, Michael, who was two years old, was sleeping peacefully in his baby chair.
"Do you want to come help your mommy bake some cookies?" She sang and I immediatly jumped from my place, while Tommy giggled like, who would say, a baby.
"What do I do with Tommy?" I asked. How I knew that you aren't supposed to leave a baby alone at the age of five, I have no idea.
"Daddy will look after him, right sweetie?" My mom said, making my dad look up from his paper.
"Huh? Oh, sure, sure" he walked towards us and grabbed Tommy, who started giggling even louder.
I went to the kitchen to find my mom pouring some milk into a bowl.
"Done. Now, your favorite part" she smiled while passing me a whisk.
"Yaaaay!" I cheered, lifting my arms, signaling her that I wanted her to pick me up. She did just that and placed me in a high chair, so I could reach the bowl. I grabbed it and starte putting the mixture together, when an idea popped into my head.
"Mommy?"
"Hmm?"
"Why are you baking cookies? You only do it for special occasions" my young mind deducted. She gave me a knowing smile.
"Oh, they're not for us. They're for the neighbors" she explained. I tilted my head to the side, confused.
"Neighbors? What neighbors?" I asked. I didn't remember having any neighbors there in our beach house. Oh, how I loved that beach house. Well, it wasn't ours, it was my grandparents', but they never used it, so it was basically ours.
"A family from New Jersey bought the place next to us and built a house. Their last name is Steeler, I think"
That was the first time I ever heard about the Steelers. Little did I know, how great my summers were going to be thanks to that family.
