The hunt

I walked to the waterfall, wanting to clean myself after today's big hunt. I had told my maids to take the hounds to a different lake to clean them, then to join me later. It was dark out, the full moon giving me enough light to see. I striped and left my clothes, bow, and arrows on the bank of the river. I walked up to the waterfall and stood under it. When I was almost done I heard a snap. I thought it was my maids or my brother Apollo but when I turned around and saw neither my maids nor my brother. It was a young man, hiding in the bushes. He noticed I had seen him so he turned around and ran.

"Hey come back here". I shouted.

I ran to my clothes, putting them on and then grabbed my bow and arrows. I didn't want him to boast to other people that he saw me unclothed. I started to catch up with him, then I used my magic to turn him into a deer. Before I could draw my bow to shoot him he disappeared behind a large rock. I slowed to a fast walk to glance behind to rock to find a big meadow, full of deer.

I drew my bow, but my hounds came barking, scaring the deer away. I turned around, glaring at my maids. The all had guilty faces.

"Why did you do that. Follow those deer and don't lose them".

They started to run, with the hounds behind them. I summoned my brother. He appeared, with a bow in hand.

"Tell me dear sister, why do you call for me after I have already left. I have business to attend to with father."

"Sorry brother, but a man has seen me unclothed, then ran. I turned him into a deer, only for him to find a herd of deer. Before I could find him, my hounds chased the deer away. Right now my maids are following them. Help me find him before the magic wears off and he can go boast to other men."

"I will help you, but what will I get in return?"

"I will give you one of my maids, of your choosing."

"I have all the women I will ever need. Give me your finest hunting hound".

"Only if you find him. For your time, I will go talk to father about forgiving you about joining the war."

"Deal. Where are your maids now?"

"Follow me".

I used my magic to find my maids. They were a couple of miles away, and still moving. Apollo summoned his chariot and we both got on. The horses were as fast as the wind. We caught up with the maids in no time. As we neared them I jumped off and my brother followed. We silently creeped up to the meadow where the deer were and looked at them.

"Which one is him?"

"I don't know. Look for one that seems out of place. Get him away from the herd. I want to see him suffer."

"Don't worry sister. We will get him before sun up."

We sat there for a while before the herd started to move. One of the bucks stayed and looked at the moving herd. He followed, but it looked difficult for him to move.

"He must be that one. Get him away from the herd."

Before we moved, men and hounds came from the opposite side of the meadow. They started to shout out a name.

"They must be looking for that man. Let's guide them to him and let the hounds kill him."

"How do you plan on that dear sister?"

"I will shift into a rabbit and get the hounds attention, then run to the deer. You follow the men and make sure none of them leave the group."

"Let's go".

I shifted into a rabbit and hopped near the hounds. One of them saw me and started to bark. The others soon saw me and I ran. They followed, and so did the men. I quickly caught up to the deer and found the one struggling to walk. I ran under him and he fell. The hounds attacked the deer, tearing at his flesh. I used my magic to turn him back to human. I hid and watched as the men found the dead body of one of their hunting buddies being shredded to pieces. They got the hounds off and one of the men picked up the remaining parts of the dead man and they walked away.

I shifted back to my true form and watched the men walk away from the bloody area. Apollo came up next to me and watched the men. My maids and hounds came up behind us and stood there silently.

"So. When are you going to talk to dad?"
