The next morning, I get up a bit earlier than usual because I have to pick my outfit carefully. I need to make a lasting impression on the boys. Yep, I'm a player, a heart breaker, whatever you want to call me. I get the boys to fall in love with me and then break their hearts using their weaknesses. And in order to do that, I need the perfect outfit.
I go to the bathroom first and finish all my morning necessities.
Ten minutes later, I stand before my wardrobe, trying to pick an outfit, something sexy, but with a hint of modesty. Boys aren't impressed if you show up with half of your boobs showing.
In the end, I go for an off-shouldered top paired with a pair of skinny jeans, with a necklace and some bangles. I brush my hair, getting all the snarls and tangles out. I reach for my lip gloss and hurriedly applied some. It needs to be subtle. I don't need mascara - Kate said I look pretty enough without it. Boys again don't like girls with panda eyes or lips that are shining abnormally. Most guys prefer the all-natural look.
I grab my bag, give a final pat to my hair and hurry down the stairs. From the kitchen, I hear Holly arguing with Mom.
"But Mom! It'll only be a few hours!" Holly is protesting.
"No," Mom says firmly. "I forbid you to go and that's ultimate. End of story. Period."
Uh oh. She's in her courtroom mode. I quietly reach for a piece of pancake, smear some maple syrup on it and start munching on it.
"Why not? It is because you think I'll make out with a boy?"
I choke.
"It's not that," Mom says evenly. "Stop arguing Holly. How old do you think you are? Eat your breakfast."
"I'm not eating until I get permission to go!" Holly stamps her foot impatiently, like a five years old.
"That's fine by me."
"It's inequitable! I'm already forced to live here and now you're saying I can't even attend a disco with my new friend?"
Woah. My sister already had the girl next door as her friend? I thought they were just pretending when I found out yesterday night. It's a bit of a coincidence to be living right next to someone who goes to the exact same school you're attending.
"Friends," Mom corrects. "You can't be serious Holly. Just because she's your new friend and all doesn't mean you should trust her too much yet. You might get drunk and not to mention what is going to happen when you're drunk..." she's starting to sound hysterical rather than firm.
That's the thing with my mom. Sometimes, she's a total drama queen. It's in her DNA apparently. Because who gets inebriated at a disco?
