Piper
I rushed to find my way to the scene. People formed a small circle around the area of a lying woman. The circle is spreaded by the bodyguards with black suit, giving a lot more space for the victim.
"Hey Pipe, it's none of our business. Let's go." James told me while holding my hand.
I rolled my eyes on him. "It is my goddamn business James. I want to get out of here as much as you do but I'm a fucking nurse. I just can't ignore it."
I handed him the book forcefully. "Hold this, wait for me here."
"Pipe! whe shou-"
I didn't let him finish. I continued my way to the crowd and push myself as close as possible to the lying woman, I surveyed the scene. I took a quick look at the top of a three storey building where a window is open and curtains are waving.
Oh my God. There is no way she could survive this.
The woman who helped me got a sign from Cece arrived. A higher ranked bodyguard approached her and whispered something to her ears. She is composed, like she experienced this for a lot of times already.
"Garry! Call an ambulance for God's sake!" she shouted to a bodyguard.
An ambulance will take 10 to 15 minutes to arrive, she is already dead by that time. I grimly thought.
I waved my hand at the woman but she didn't saw me. I took a few steps closer to the scene when a bodyguard stopped me and said, "Can't you see? This is not a book signing anymore. Get out of here already."
"I know. Let me pass. I need to check if she is still alive"
"No. We cannot allow that."
"I'm a nurse! I'm a nurse okay? I just want to help."
I showed him my identification card. My voice was loud enough for everyone to hear. They look at me with relief. The bodyguard turned his back on me and said something on his radio. The woman signaled him to let me pass. I approached the woman and I can see in her face that she remembered me.
"Glad you are still here, I'm Alice." the woman extended her hand for a handshake. I accepted it with bried response
"Thanks, do you know her?" I kneeled in front of the woman and took a closer look, I can't see her face because she is lying face down.
"Yes, can you perform CPR?" Alice asked. She is very composed and relaxed. Now I wonder if she really cares for this woman.
My finger tips find its way to feel the carotid pulse of the victim. I felt the beating.
Thank God she is alive.
"There is no need for CPR, she is alive. Help me put her in a recovery position."
Alice kneeled on the opposite side of me and slowly pushed the victim's body while I assisted her carefully. I look at the victim from head to toe to see if she has some fractured bones. I think she is fine.
This is impossible! She should have at least one major injury. Shit! The head!
It's the first time I realized that the victim is not breathing.
Holy crap!
"Alice! Wipe the blood from her face!"
Alice obliged as fast and carefully as she could. The face of the woman slowly appeared in front of me.
