As I arrived at work, I noticed a little note on the floor just behind the door. Curious as to see what it was, I picked it up.
Mr Linton,
I have to speak to you about your work recently. Come to my office immediately.
Rikkard Ambrose
"Oh spare me the pleasantries sir, they're quite overwhelming." I muttered under my breath as I made my way to the ever so joyful place that was my employer's office. I opened the door to see Mr Ambrose writing at his desk, silently. No surprise there. Focusing on his writing, I could see his handwriting was immaculate and he had made no mistakes.
Not lifting his head up to look at me, he spoke, "Come."
"How kind of you to ask," I said. I noticed his head twitching up so I decided to tack on a quick, "Sir." to the end. For some reason, I felt extremely sarcastic today- more than usual, that is. I walked up to his desk and watched him as he finished writing and set his pen down. He looked up at me and opened his mouth but was cut off by someone rushing in.
"I-Is this the office of... wait a second... Mr Rikkard Ambrose?" The man said, panting and out of breath. The very familiar man. I turned my head quickly so that he could not see my face. I did however, see Mr Ambrose's glare set on the man.
"How insolent," He began, "and rude of you to barge in without even knocking? You certainly lack respect. Who sent you?" Even without looking, I could feel the man's grin from behind me.
"My insolence is my one quality that seems to catch the most attention. I was sent by Lord What's his name." I watched as Mr Ambrose's jaw clenched and the temperature in the room suddenly dropped. Did he work for Lord Dalgliesh? But he didn't even know his name!
"You work for Lord Dalgliesh, do you?" He asked, his voice noticeably colder than before, somehow.
"Work for that demanding thing? Of course not! I was merely walking home to get my things ready when he appears out of nowhere and threatens me to give this to a Rikkard Ancloves or else." I had to surpress a snicker at that. "Leaving me to find you myself, too." I sighed in relief without thinking and I could suddenly feel the attention on me as if it were the attention of thousands. "Oh, hello there. I am sorry that I didn't notice you beforehand. I was quite occupied."
I noticed Mr Ambrose's eyes narrow slightly. I knew that it would be best just to turn around instead of increase suspicion by keeping my back to him. I turned slowly to face the Captain. Captain Carter.
A/N: I am so sorry, this chapter is really quite short but I felt like this was a natural stopping point. I know the characters are probably not that close to the original behaviour-wise but I tried my best. Of course, there will be a second chapter and probably more- unless I manage to wrap it up in the next, that is. I think the grammar and spelling should be fine but if it isn't, please let me know. I hope you liked this!
