I sighed as I let Meg, a maid, fix my tuxedo for me, and looked at my reflection on the mirror.
I was wearing a black tux, which I hated with a burning passion. My hair was neatly combed, and I had dark circles under my eyes from lack of sleep.
Today was another one of my fathers stupid work meetings, and I was forced to attend to it.
"you're done. You look handsome." She said. I didn't believe her.
Everyone in the house hated me.
Even my cat.
"Thank you. You can go." I dismissed her, just wanting to be alone. She nodded and left.
I looked at the clock. 5 PM. The guests would arrive at 6.
I looked back at myself. I really hated wearing dark colors, but I couldn't exactly wear pastel jumpers and skinny jeans in front of my fathers co workers. Besides, my parents disapproved of my style, so I tried my hardest to wear normal clothes in front of them, which was not hard as they were rarely home. They were always on business trips, and only visited once a month, for a stupid family reunion, so that meant I had all the house to my self, which is not fun.
It's not fun living in a gigantic mansion, with countless maids and chefs and butlers when your only 17.
"Daniel," my mother said, coming into my room. Oh joy.
"Hi" I said. She was wearing a long black dress.
"The guests will arrive soon, so you should come down to the main lounge to greet them when they come. Remember to leave a good impression."
"Okay, I'll be down in a minute." She nodded and left, as I got up and checked myself in the mirror one more time. I looked presentable, so I walked out of my room and got in the elevator.
Hey, our house had six floors, and my room was on the sixth. you can't except me to go all the way down on stairs now, can you?
The elevator doors opened, revealing the main lounge.
I don't like here.
Everything here is luxurious and expensive, and I hate expensive and luxurious things. I've had enough of those for my entire life, but there is no escaping it.
The guests started to arrive one by one, so that meant that I had to socialize. I didn't like doing that.
---------
The night went on so slowly that I had started to doubt that someone had slowed it down somehow, but finally, it was over.
When the guests had left, my parents told me to go to the family room, and that they would meet me there.
Right now, I was sitting in the family room, playing a game on my phone when my parents entered the room.
"Daniel." My father greeted me.
"Father." I greeted back.
"We would like to discuss something with you, about your education." My mother said.
"Okay?" I said uncertainly. Why would they want to talk about my education? I was currently enrolled in a privet school, with other rich kids like me (who were mostly stuck up prats) and my grades were good, so I wasn't sure why they would want to talk about that. Also, I already had an instructor, so it couldn't be about that.
"We have decided to send you to a public school."
Wait, what?
"What?!" I asked, not sure if I heard them right. "Why?"
My parents were all about impressions. It would not be a good impression for their business if their son went to a public school.
"We have decided to send you there, because we think you would do better in a public school. You should make some friends, and your not making any in the school you go, and there are lots of children in a public high school who I'm sure would want to befriend you. Good friends will help you in the future." My father replied.
"But-"
"No buts. Your starting your new school on Monday." My father said sternly.
"Yes father." I said back. "Anything else?" I asked, just wanting to go back up to my room.
"Yes," my mother said " your father and I have to go on a business trip to Russia, and we won't be back for two months. We leave tonight. That's all, you can leave now."
I nodded and left for my room. When i got there, I just lay on my bed and stared at the ceiling. It was the middle of the year, and I was changing schools. Great. That sure would help me to make friends.
At least my parents would be gone. That was a good thing, right? They weren't here to judge my every step, and I was thankful for that.
At those thoughts, I drifted into a dreamless sleep, with my clothes still on.
