Stepping out of my truck that day was one of the hardest things I had done all summer. Sure, there had been band camp and the time I got in a fight with Billy Newton, but nothing quite matches the pain of going back to school. Some might think I was overreacting, but to me school is like prison, and I was turning myself in.
I could see the other students streaming into the courtyard as I approached the entrance. All the cliques reunited, acting as though they hadn't seen their friends in ages, because God forbid they pick up a phone and make plans over their break. Jocks, nerds, "gifted" kids, druggies, the populars, and me. I just didn't fit in. Even among the band kids I always seemed to be a misfit, the outcast. It was like high school was one big inside joke and I just didn't get it.
"TREVOR!". I whipped my head around at the sound of Aaron's voice, and wound up face to face with the dweebiest guy in North Ridge, and possibly in the whole of San Francisco. More importantly, my best (and only) friend. I guess we weirdos have to stick together.
"Whats up with my favorite four-eyes?" I asked. Aaron has had glasses since the fourth grade, and I swear they're at least an inch thick. With the scar from Harriet by his left eyebrow, he looked like an Indian Harry Potter.
"Shut it Blondie. Anyways, as of this month, I officially have a girl, even with four eyes." he retorted. "That's bullshit." I replied. "She's real, let me get her." He said, pulling out his flip phone that was old as time itself. "Aaron, if it's that picture from Playboy that you used to kiss, it doesn't count." I teased.
Just as he was about to open his mouth, the bell sounded, and people began to race towards their class. Reluctantly, I looked down at my schedule. First period was Ms.Swartz, a name I had never heard of before, so I guessed that she must've been new. I started on my way towards room 422B with my head hung low.
