The night of June 14 was the beginning to the perfect adventure I've ever had. Some people say that this event was a dimwitted week that did destruction to just about everything, but in my eyes, it was the start to something fantastic.
I went to school, like every other person, and had a pretty normal life. I lived with my mom in a small, 2 story house in a small city called Lakeway. I had no siblings, no pets, and no "white girl" tendencies, unlike most girls at my school. Currently, I am a junior and can not wait for hell, ahem, I mean school, to be over so I can stop being stressed out 24/7 and have actual free time.
The night started off in my room. I know, exciting. It was the end to a typical Friday. I went to school, came home, ate a large pizza all by myself, watched Netflix, you know. The usual.
I was currently sitting on my bed, tucked in my blue covers with several blankets supporting the cause of keeping me warm. My mac book sat on my lap with an episode of friends echoing through my ears. My IPhone 5 was tossed to the side of me.
"Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-nana.
Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-nana.
Banana-ah-ah.
Potato na-ah-ah."
I peeled my eyes off the screen to glance at my phone glowing with an incoming message. I had no motivation to pick it up. My arms were placed just perfectly at my sides under the mound of blankets I created and I really had no intention of destroying this bliss.
The call ended, so I focused my attention back at my computer.
"Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-nana."
I grunted as I pulled my arms out of their warm cocoon and answered my phone. "What do you want you little vexatious creature."
"Well hello to you too, bitch." Morgan said with a snotty tone.
Morgan is a straight B student who loves to mess with people by being annoying and bitchy most of the time. She is also the one you have to watch out for on April Fools' day because she can do some serious damage. Two years ago, she planned an extravagant prank on our Biology teacher, Mr. Bergun. He had a rule that if your phone rang during class, you had to answer it on speaker phone. In the middle of class, she had her older brother call and say that her pregnancy test came back positive, which caused poor Mr. Burgun to apologize a superfluous amount of times. She then told him what she was naming the kid, April Fools'. This was the first day I officially met her because she asked me to record it.
"What do you want?" I asked as I paused the episode and slid my computer over to the side. "I'm doing something important."
"Get off your freaking computer Charlotte and get your ass out of bed. We are going on an adventure."
I sighed and swung my legs off my bed. "I don't want to Morgie. I've had a long day and I just wanna eat and sleep."
"Awe Char. Do you want me to come over and bring you cookies and tell you that I love you?" She said in a sarcastic manner.
I shuffled over to my dresser and picked up the half full water bottle. "You know I would appreciate if you would be nicer to me." I set my phone down and put it on speaker, then brought the bottle up to my lips to take a sip. "Although I do wish that you could come over right..."
"Charlotte," my mother yelled. "open up your window for Morgan."
I couldn't help but smile at this process that seemed to happen just about everyday. I made my way over to the window, unlocked it, and pushed it up high enough for her to get through.
"You do know we have a door, right?" I took a step backward so she could jump in from the tree.
She jumped in easily and in one swift motion. "Doors are lame." She responded while taking off her backpack, setting it on my bed, and started rummaging through it.
"You are so weird."
She glanced over her shoulder at me. "I know." She focused her attention back at her bag and finally pulled out an envelope. with a smirk placed on her face, she extended her arm out so I could take the envelope. Giving her a confused look, I accepted it and opened it up.
"Holy shit." I said. The envelope was filled with 20's stacked neatly against each other. "Where did you get this?"
"Lets just say that some people underestimate what I can do." she plopped down on my bed and pulled my computer onto her lap.
"What did you do?" I sat down next to her sitting criss cross applesauce.
"You know how the football team likes making bets?" she said without looking up from the screen.
"Yea."
"Well they bet that I couldn't take down their offensive lineman. If they won, I would give the each a lap dance. If I won, they would each give me 20 bucks."
I glanced at the envelope once again. "So you got 500 dollars?"
"Well, there is actually more like 700 in there. I put my last paycheck in there too." She continued typing, scrolling, and clicking on my computer. I looked over her shoulder to see what she was doing but she aggressively pushed my head away and told me that I couldn't look yet.
"Why did you ask me about the adventure thing earlier?" I asked standing up to get my phone.
"Because."
"Great answer. You know, you should be lawyer when you're older." I said making my way back to the bed.
"Ha ha. Very funny."
"I try hard." I unlocked my phone and checked my text messages.
Hey. Is morg there? -Tanner
Yea... y? -Charlotte
Has she told you? -Tanner
Told me what? -Charlotte
"Who's that?" Morgan said next to me.
"Your stupid brother." An audible grunt came out of her mouth. "So what is this thing you're gonna tell me?"
"Give me a sec."
"You take too long." I let my torso fall back onto my bed and closed my eyes. Some mac and cheese would be really good right now.
"Okay, get over here." She pushed the computer over so it was halfway between us. "So here is the adventure."
On the screen was a map that had an image on certain places. Arrows connected the images creating a path that started and ended at my house. "What is this?"
"Well since me and Tanner-"
"Tanner and I." I corrected.
"Shut up. Since we are moving soon, we decided that our squad should have a fun trip together. One week. Just the six of us. What do you say?" She asked turning her head towards me. Her brown eyes were filled with hope.
"Only if there is food." I replied with a smirk. A genuine grin appeared on her face before she leaned towards me and gave me a big hug.
"Better start packing up your stuff." She said standing up. "We've got to go."
