The Strings

Chapter 2

We find a seat at the center of the restaurant. I called the waiter as soon as I took my seat.

I scanned for the food and it didn't take me that long to finalize my order.

" T-bone, medium rare. A lot of mushrooms and fries. And one diet coke please" I told the waiter.

I caught a glimpse of Shelly, she is squinting at me like she didn't understand my orders at all.

" Yours ma'am?" The waiter turned his attention to Shelly and asked.

" I will order everything she ordered except for T-bone,a lot of mushrooms and fries, and a diet coke. And kindly also add vegetable salad and iced tea"

She looked at me, I frowned at her.

"What? I just want to sound like I'm going to eat a lot" she said in an irritated manner.

"Vegetable salad and iced tea, is that all ma'am?". The waiter verified her orders.

"Yes, basically, that's all"

I laugh. She is really sensitive when it comes to this. She is having a hard time on diet while on the other hand I just have a natural sexy figure which she thinks, a big way of cheating. I don't know if it's a gift that I can maintain my sexy figure even though I eat a lot, a really lot, or it is a curse that prevents me in getting fat no matter how much I wanted.

Shelly is not that bad at all, she has a nice figure and it all matches with her height. She is taller than me, 5'7'' to be specific and I think that is the one thing I'm jealous about her.

"So about what you said earlier, were you serious or you just like the guy for me?"

"It's actually hard to explain but it's both, I'm serious and I kinda like the guy for you"

"Piper baby, when did you start lying and making up stories? Are you in some kind of drugs right now?"

I sighed. I figured it out, she won't believe me that easily even though she is my best friend.

"Look, remember how I used to tell you that mom and dad are not meant for each other? It turns out that I was right all this time because mom is actually destined for Juan"

"Destined for who?"

"Juan, her new husband which looks like Bilbo Baggins"

"Really?! It's a great news. And Bilbo Baggins is cute, by the way"

"Ummm, nope. I mean the old version of Bilbo Baggins"

She laughed. "Oh my God. Seriously?"

"Dead serious."

I took a sip in my glass of water and prepared for my next explanation.

"Look, I can tell which one in this room will end up with each other, and which one will not."

I pointed at the table across us where there is an old couple.

"They are destined."

"Of course, they are" she said.

I pointed to the next table. "They are not."

"Really? I don't think so, they are married and I think they are happy"

"Nope, that woman is having an affair with the driver out there" I pointed at the driver waiting outside the car. "That's the the guy for him" I added.

"Okay stop. You are starting to creep me out"

I leaned closer to the table so I can whisper to her, "Okay, but do you know that these guys behind our table are meant for each other?"

"Are you telling me that they are gays?" she whispered back.

I nod. We both looked at the guys when they suddenly kissed each other. They are not holding back at all.

"Ummm, that was a surprise, but I think they are hot."

"Yeah, I think so too" I said.

She pulled her chair closer and raised her hand. I thought she is going to believe me but she said, "Remember how I used to bark when we were kids?"

I didn't get her.

"You didn't barked when we were kids"

"I did. The truth is, I'm just a dog. You know, I'm a dog trapped in a human body."

I bursted out laughing. The fact that she can joke like that, and the fact that she didn't believe me about this destiny thing the whole time. I just wish that there is an easier way for me to say this to her but no matter how I put it, everything I say will be unbelievable at all.

"Oh my God! I just remembered!"

Her eyes were shining like a little kid who received gifts from santa when she said that.

"Remembered what? " I asked nonchalantly.

"Cece is going to have a book signing next Friday!"

"Holy crap! Are you serious?!"

"Yes! I already bought her third book, I haven't read it yet, but it's freaking Cece who wrote it so for sure it is great"

"Oh my God, I can't believe this. Oh my freaking God! I need to buy the book right now!"

I slammed at the table and stood up. I never intended to gather that much attention though. As soon as I realize that everyone is looking at me, I slowly sit back in my chair while whispering some apologies.

Shelly laughed and said "You are a big fan of Cece, aren't you?"

"I am and everyone is a big fan of Cece."

"I know, right? Cece is like a phenomenal writer who just popped out from nowhere. The next thing you know, everyone is talking about her."

"Did you just say her? I thought he was a guy?"

"Is he a guy? I thought she was a girl."

"Look, I tried to google Cece but there are no pictures of her so maybe we will find out next Friday."

"Next Friday?"

"Next Friday it is." 🇵🇭
