Quinn Everett

"We're here." My mom exclaimed, pulling into a drive way of our new house. I lifted my head from my palm and viewed the outside of the house. I wasn't interested at first, but my jaw dropped when I got out of the car and got a better look.

"Woah," I whispered.

"Isn't it nice?" My step dad said, nudging my side.

"I guess." I said, brushing off my arm where he touched me. You could assume already that I don't like him.

"Wait until you see the inside." He said, walking in the house. I followed him, only because I had to.

The house was all vacuumed and completely empty. It smelled really nice and had so much space. Somebody could tumble in here. I liked the house.

"Your mom and I have already seen the house, but you can get some of your boxes out of the car. We were about go out again to get some pizza for you, how does that sound?" Terrance, that was step dad's name, asked.

My face lit up, but I recovered by pretending to act like I didn't care. He's only trying to kiss up to me because he knows I'm angry at him that we had to move again.

We have moved from place to place for at least four years now because Terrance is always getting new job offers.

"Yeah sure, I don't care." I replied. He nodded and walked out.

I watched out the window, waiting for the car to pull out and leave. Once it did, I blasted 'Partition' by Beyonce, singing every word to it.

I started to unpack from some of my boxes for my room. All the bigger things like the bed, dresser, tv etc. were already set up in my room.

The loud, doorbell rang, making jump and quickly pause my music. I panicked and grabbed the closest thing to me which was my recorder that I don't even know how to play anymore.

I looked out the peep hole thing to see a girl. She was short and looked harmless, so I opened the door. She looked up from her phone and smiled at me.

"Hey, you just moved here right?" She asked, and I nodded.

"Yep." I said, throwing my recorder away from me.

"I'm your neighbor, my name is Maleia I live right there." She pointed to her house which isn't too far from mine. I nodded slowly.

"Do you want to come in?" I offered.

"Sure," she stepped in. "So what's your name?"

"Quinn."

"That's so pretty." She said. She was super nice.

"Thank you, I love your name too." I smiled at her. She smiled back. "So my parents aren't here right now because they're getting pizza, but I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you'd join us."

"I'd love to join you guys!" She excitedly jumped up and down. I laughed a bit, and her smile faded away. "Sorry, I've been told I get too excited sometimes. I just came from a foster home so I've been alone for a long time." She confessed. She was so adorable.

"Aw it's okay, you did nothing wrong." I put my hand on her shoulder.

Terrance and mom shortly came through the door with two boxes of pizza from pizza hut. I jumped up and took both boxes.

"I'll take that thank you very much." I set it down on the counter and opened the warm box revealing the beautiful pizza.

"Quinn." My mom called.

"Yes mom." I said taking a piece.

"Are you going to introduce me to your friend?"

"Oh," I nervously laughed. "Mom this is Maleia, Maleia this is my mom. And that's my step dad." I muttered the last part. They waved at each other and had a small conversation. Maleia stayed with us for a little while before she had to leave because it was getting kind of dark.

"Most likely we're going to the same school, so you can just look for me and we can hang out." She said.

"Okay I will." I said, and we exchanged numbers before she left.

I already made a new friend within the couple hours of being in a new state. I'm off to a good start.
