"Make mama proud!" That's the first and last thing Ella hears everyday. Her mom has always wanted the best for her and pushes Ella to do the best. It's just how it's always been. Ever since Ella could walk she has followed some sort of schedule or routine orchestrated by the lovely Evelyn Myers. The schedule was perfectly made perfectly timed and almost always perfectly followed by Ella. Some people would see Ella's mom as a bit controlling. But not Ella. She loves her mother and understands that she only wants to see her succeed.

It was six thirty in the morning and Ella was up studying as usual. She sat on the floor of her basement bedroom facing the window seat that was centered between two built in wall sized bookshelves. She wore her favorite black sweat pants and a white tank top with her black hair up in a bun leaving a few strands dangling in front of her face. She had been studying for an hour already, reading over her insanely neat notes from her history class. This wasn't her favorite subject, she's hated it ever since she realized that America, the country she lives in, was built on the blood and suffering of others.

She continued to quiz herself as she finished painting her nails a deep blue color. She paced in the room waving her hands in the air until she figured she knew everything that she had noted down and decided it was time to make breakfast. She ran into the kitchen and started cracking some eggs. She loved to cook with the music on, but didn't want to disturb her parents who were still asleep. After making breakfast she woke them up. "Good morning! Breakfast is ready." She said in a sweet light voice as not to scare them. She sat at the counter munching on her breakfast as she watched the news. After breakfast, she got ready for school, putting on a pair of washed out jeans a black T-shirt and a cardigan over. She left her dark black hair down as usual, it had a nice natural curl to it that all of her friend were jealous of.

As usual her father dropped her off at school at 7:45 in order to get to work on time. It's a short distance from her house, about a fifteen minute walk, but her parents are a bit controlling and insist on dropping her off every morning. Ella usually stays at the library until five in the evening so that her mother can pick her up. Ella doesn't mind it. She actually enjoys going to the library, it's her home away from home.

She walked to her locker where she normally meets her friend Skylar. She was the opposite of Ella. Skylar is a very outgoing and spontaneous person. She has been in many relationships over the past two years, it came to no surprise when she told Ella that she was no longer a virgin in the ninth grade. It really upset Ella that Skylar would do something like that with a guy she has only been dating for two months. They ended up breaking up about a month later, but they continue to hook up. No wonder Ella's mom never liked her. That is one thing that Ella did not let her mother take control of. No matter how hard Evelyn persuaded Ella to let go of this friendship it never happened.

As Ella approached her locker she saw Skylar talking to her new boyfriend, Austin. He plays basketball at their high school and is also in Ella's math class, he's really smart. He gets very high marks on all his exams. Ella watched as Austin vigorously grabbed Skylar and kissed her intensely right smack in the mouth. One side of her craved to have someone kiss her and hold her like that, but the other side was absolutely disgusted by the image in front of her. Ella turned to her locker and took out the books she would need for her morning classes. When she turned around she was appalled to see that they were still going at each other, don't they need to get up at some point to breath?, she thought.

She decided she could see Skylar later and walked to her history class where the teacher would most likely be reviewing. Although history wasn't her preferred topic she loved her teacher Mr. Freedman especially when they had debates. After that she went to her boring old math class , then English, her favorite and then chorus.
