A life of Minor Screw Ups

I've always been a bit of a family screw-ups. Nothing major, just mainly getting myself into things I can't really get out of. I like getting in over my head, it keeps me on my toes, but this is maybe my deepest dive yet. I'll start at the beginning. My name is Erika, I'm 16, and i attend... well used to attend Fallcrest High. It's in a small town where not too much happens, but when something does, it's generally big. My mom and dad split when i was younger and I've been living with Dad, cause mom decided to run off to England. I don't really care though. Dad and I have always gotten along great. We would go out fishing and I would get mad, because  I always lost the contest to catch the most fish. It was a good time. The school was having a large assembly that day, but we had some visitors no one knew about at the time. The day started off normal. An hour in history, and then an hour in science, but science was... wrong. There isn't really another way to put it. There was something behind Mr. Drake. I looked around to see if any one else saw it, because it wasn't normal. The thing had large teeth and pitch black eyes, and long limbs. Before you ask it wasn't standing. It was sitting on the wall behind him, slowly inching closer. When i looked around to see, there was a new student, sitting in the back of the room. Mr. Drake always introduced new students, which meant she wasn't invited. Taking a close look, she was dressed in mainly grey. She had on an old grey hoodie and black converse with grey jeans. It was her eyes that caught my attention. They were glued to the wall behind Mr. Drake, Meaning she saw it too. With a quick glance she looked at me and almost instantly, the creature leaped, and bit Mr. Drake right on the side of the neck. That's when every one saw it. The students ran out of the classroom screaming, except the girl in grey, and me. Once every one got out, she got up and with one motion took the hoodie off to reveal a long, shining silver blade. Her eyes still glued to the creature, she said "Stand still. It hasn't noticed us yet." The creature rose on its legs, looking right at the girl in grey. It gave a blood curling screech and leaped again, the girl making another movement and drove the blade into the creatures chest, where its heart would be. The creature drew back and with the speed if light, leaped out the window and escaped. Turning to me, the girl in grey said, "You alright? It didn't get you did it?"

"What was that thing!?!?" I realized i was shaking and tried to calm myself down.
"That? That was a Void Walker." She said while walking over to, and kneeling next to Mr. Drakes body, saying to him "You got sloppy, friend."

"Friend!? You know him? What are you? How did you know what that thing was?"
"Yea. William Drake. Ex-hunter, he was in the void division. I used to work with him." She responded while getting up. When she turned to me, I finally got a look at her eyes. They were a light blue, but gave me the sense that she wasn't to be messed with. Well, it might also have been the fact I had just watched my teacher get eaten.

"You seem nervous." She said in a soft tone.

"I just watched my teacher get eaten! Why didn't you do anything before it ate my teacher!?"
"I'm sorry, there were to many other people in the room... You could see it!?" Her tone changed very rapidly.
"Yea... Couldn't everyone see it?"
"No. People shouldn't be able to see void creatures. Wait. Come here. Let me look at your eyes."
My eyes? What did she want with my eyes? They aren't special, just a dark brown. Hesitantly, I started.
"Is it the blade? I bet its the blade." She sheathed her bladed and held out a hand, then got impatient and came to me. "Your eyes," she said, "a dark brown. I'm Alice." Apparently deciding to trust me.

"I'm Erika. Um...  Why'd you need to see my eyes?"

"If you could see the Void Walker, you've got a special trait, a mutation pretty much. Your one of us."

"That would be cool, if i knew what you were." I said, and almost immediately after, there was a shriek. Both of us bolted out of the room, and down the hall, to where a friend of mine was in his second period. He and all the other students sprinted from the room, and upon entering, there was another Void Walker.

"There's two!?" I called to her. That was not my best idea. And she knew it. Pulling her blade again, and stepping in front of me, just in time for it to leap.

"That's not a new one. Look closer!" she yelled, as it bit into her blade.

She was right, the area where her blade had passed through it was scarred over. Throwing it back, she recovered her footing.

"Hey, mind lending a hand!?" She screamed like i did something wrong.

"Oh. um... sure! HEY UGLY!" I yelled.

That got its attention. It turned its black eyes my way, and jumped. When it got close enough I decided it would be a good idea to take a swing. I got lucky and caught it off guard, and it when rolling across the floor, looking a little dizzy.

"Well... I've never seen anyone do that before... Why didn't you just your blade?" she ask, like I was just supposed to know what to do.

"What blade!?" I asked back.

"Oh yeah. whoops." She responded. "You can have one later."

"What do I do till then!?"

"What you just did. That took some brass ones, I'll give you that." she responded, as if this was normal. She says these things while she is parrying the Void Walkers teeth and it's arms. Going on the offensive, she stabs it again, and cuts of a hand, once again no blood, just a wound. It started for the window, but Alice was not gonna have any of that. Hurling her sword, she stopped it dead in it's tracks. Mainly cause her accuracy was deadly. The blade entered the back of the creatures head, and i can only imagine it exited the front. The Void Walker fell to the floor, and started emitting a black energy, and within minutes it had dissolved completely.

"What did that thing just do...?" I asked hesitantly, cause, I'll be honest, I half wanted to know.

"I'll explain on the way. Come on, its not safe here."

"Where are we going?"

"Your house. Where else are we gonna find what we need?" she responded like I was dumb.

"Oh.. OK? I don't see what's there that we need, but OK."

"Well, your dad knows where your weapon is. We are gonna need that." She said, so casually  I will add, again, like all this was normal.

"Dad knows what!?"

"Come on, enough standing around." She said, pulling me out of the classroom. She seemed almost excited about having me along.  At this point I was done with the crazy. Going home would be nice. Or so I thought. We left the school, and started home in her bright red Ford F-150. That's the last time I'd see the school for a while.
