The Quest Begins

My life, in that moment, was flashing before my eyes. I was back at my friends guild CrimsonFlight. We were discussing plans to leave. We, having run away from the government, were in danger of them finding our guild-houses since they were coming farther into the desert. "We have to move now." I warned, "The longer we wait the closer they get to us & the closer we are to death." David sighed, "Brinley I have families with children here...We can't just up & leave." I huffed as I paced the room. "You only have six people compared to my twenty. It's much easier for you to move out than it is for me," he said frustratedly. "I just don't have a good feeling about staying." I sighed, "I just don't want to risk getting anyone killed..." Then it happened. Outside our room people were screaming. Shit. What I feared most was happening. I readied my plasma bow & prepared to open our door. "Stay here!" I commanded, "They'll need their leader when this is all over." I quickly opened the door & shut it behind me. Tear gas. It was everywhere. "Get the children & women in their rooms!" I shouted, "All healthy persons need to get their weapons & ready for war!" I covered my face as I threw the canisters back outside & closed the main door. "Everyone be prepared! As soon as I open this door all hell is going to break loose!Fight for your families & your fellow men!" I shouted to rally them together. It seemed to work since they all hooted & hollered back. "Fight for your lives boys..." I mumbled under my breath. I knew what was beyond that door, after all, I used to be in the Central Guard. I was awarded my rapier before I found out what awful things they were doing behind the scenes & committed treason. There'll be at least twenty grounds men with plasma swords,ten with plasma guns,& five heavy armor riot men. We'll be fighting an uphill battle but we have the upper hand in combat. I cracked the main door open & readied a shot. A grounds man peeked in, I shot him clean between the eyes. Everything was still for a moment... Then all of the guilds men rushed out into the mass of enemies waiting for us. I dropped my plasma bow & pulled out my rapier. This is it. I charged out the door. Immediately I was faced with several opponents & slashed them down one by one. The fight went on for what felt like forever but, we were winning. Then it showed up. It was a laser cannon. They finished the project!? It wasn't supposed to be operable for two more years! "Everyone get down!" I screamed. Too late. It had already obliterated five guilds men & two of their own fighters. It aimed at me next. I couldn't escape its sights fighting all these enemies! Then I felt a hard shove in my left side & the cannon went off a second later. David!? He had pushed me out of the way & was now on the ground missing part of his torso on the left side. Unbridled rage filled me & I grabbed a fallen gun on the ground. I pointed it right at the cannons barrel as it charged for its next shot at me. All it took was one shot from the plasma gun & the cannon exploded. Three enemies remained. They had surrendered & were on their knees pleading to be released. "I can't let you live." I said as I walked over, "You'll just tell your general where we are & come with more men." They started whimpering & pleading profusely. One swipe. I executed them all with no mercy just as they had done to us. As I turned around I saw medics tending to David & ran to his side. He was breathing but I knew it wouldn't take long for him to... "Brinley," he wheezed, "Do me one last favor & give Jason my crest. He shall lead CrimsonFlight now." "B-but," I stammered, then I calmed myself, "Just stay strong & you can do it yourself." He let out a struggled laugh, "You & I both know I won't last another minute hardly.Just please do this one thing for me." He smiled then slowly his body gave in to death. I closed his eyes. "We shall have a proper burial this evening." I shouted as I stood to look at those who remained, "Those who are injured go inside so the medics may tend to your wounds.Those who faired better shall help me in preparation for the burial ceremony. Hours later we had buried everyone but David. We placed him on a cot & carried him to the stream where his master was once buried before him. Everyone stood in a circle as Jason & I laid him in the ground & buried him.
We all returned to the guild-house in silence. Only a few moments after we got back a knock came to the door. I opened it hesitantly to see my guild WhiteWyverns standing in front of me. "Why are you here?I told you to stay at our guild-house." I said confused. It was my first mate Ebony who replied, "You didn't return before noon so we knew something was wrong & came for you." I sighed, "You're just in time for me to mark the new headmaster." Ebony looked at me confused. "Come in before night sets in & the Dusk Beasts start hunting." I said & ushered them all in.
