Selena Evans
Rain tickled down my forehead as I unlocked the door to my mom's apartment. Once I walked into the house, the kitchen aroma smelled like fried chicken, collard greens, corn bread and macaroni.
My mom never cooked like she used too. Ever since my father left her, she's been on drugs mad crazy. I hated seeing her like this everyday. It's like she became crazier and crazier everyday. I sat my pink Jansport book bag on the dirty carpet and made my way into the kitchen.
"Sit down so I can make your plate."
I took a seat at the round wooden table. Glancing at my mom, she looked bad. When her and my father was together, she had clear brown skin with no blemishes, long black hair and a thick figure.
Now she was all skin and bones, and her skin became pale. Scooping some of the macaroni onto the plastic plate, she sat my food in front of me.
"You never cook." I say as I pick up my fork.
"Be grateful you even eating. And you wonder why I never cook shit." she semi yelled taking a seat across from me.
She was a little too piped up right now. Rolling my eyes, I took a big bite of the sweet collard greens. We sat at the table in silence. She didn't even dare to ask me about school or anything.
Once I finished my food, I went to my small room. I didn't have a phone to text anyone, so I took a quick shower and watched tv for the rest of the night.
