The car came to a sudden halt in the driveway, making me jolt forward. As I looked through the window at the house I would be staying at for the next two days, I couldn't help but roll my eyes.
"Is this really necessary?!" I asked my mom, stepping over my brother to get out of the car.
"Yes, it is very necessary. And I will not be arguing with you about this any further." She stated while applying another coat of eyeliner in the car's mirror. In the darkness of night the light from it casted shadows on her face, making her look even more serious.
"I am sixteen! I can handle being alone in the house for two days, I don't need to stay with the neighbors!" I yelled, trying to make a last minute plea to stay alone.
"You are the one who decided not to come with us to your cousin's, and that's fine but I will not leave you here alone. End of discussion." She stuck her hand out of the car window and waved goodbye as she reversed out of the driveway. I watched her drive away as I wondered if I had made the right decision in staying.
I walked up the cement steps and rang the doorbell. As I waited for Ms. Lagman to answer, I thought about what I had gotten myself into. I hadn't seen Ms. L in a few years as I only ever saw her when my brother was spending time with her son. And they had some sort of falling out. From what I remembered she was a kind lady but sort of plain. I figured that's exactly what my stay was going to be like. About five minutes passed and there was still no answer at the door. I pushed the doorbell twice and this time I heard some shuffling. The front door flew open and my eyes grew wide. Standing there instead of Ms. Lagman, was a boy no younger than nineteen. He was absolutely gorgeous. I must've made him uncomfortable with my staring but I couldn't help it. He had shaggy light brown hair and a caramel complexion that made you want to lick him all over. I looked up at him as he was clocking in at around 6 foot 2. While staring at his bright green eyes, I realized who he was. "Hi, my mom told me you'd be staying here for a few days. Come on in." he said.
