she rolled her eyes, as her mother yelled at her beckoning her out of the cab. Sucking her teeth she hauled herself from her seat, bringing with her a smaller bag. Her hair a tangled mass of brown and it flung down past her shoulders, covering her face. She swiped it away and closed the cab door behind her. It drove away leaving the smell of petrol and fumes. She glared after it as it left. Her eyes scanned the quite neighbourhood, for some form of excitement or life. Her expectations were correct, it was dull, plain and she hated to be back.
She made her way round to the rear of the car, where her mom had already opened up the bonnet to take out her things. As her mum reached to take out the bags she was cut off by her daughters sharp voice.
"I've got it" she sliced her hand in front of her mothers. Her moms hand darted back to her side, not wanting to intervene with her daughter. The girl pulled out the two suitcases, bringing them to her side.
"right" her mum smiled weakly and closing the bonnet
"I didn't know what you'd have wanted for dinner so I thought maybe pasta? And I changed the sheets on your bed-"
Her mother paused and glanced at her daughter who had carried on walking towards the door, only to see that her head phone gripped into each ear. And in background of the silent neighbourhood were the quite echoes of her music.
"Embry?" Her mother questioned "please could you just listen for one minute? You've barely said a word the whole journey" Embry's eyes remained ahead, as her mothers voice went unnoticed.
"Embry for god sake" she tapped her arm.
"what?" She said, taking out a head phone and staring at her mum, a bemused look covered her face "what were you saying?"
"You've barely said a word the whole way here"
"And what was it you were expecting me to say?" Embry's voice was sharp, she raised a perturbed look upon her face
"Anything Embry, do you have any idea how excited I've been to see you"
"Enlighten me" her voice remained sharp, but her eyes were distracted by the opening of the front door. A small girls head popped out from the side, an excitable grin grew on her face as the little girl dashed down the path towards her sister and leaped into her arms.
"Ohhhh I've missed you so much" Embry said
"I've missed you too Em" the little girl squealed
"You're getting tall now, aren't you"
"She's a big girl now aren't you poppy" Their mother said, smiling at each of them
"You are getting very big, soon you'll be taller than me" Embry smiled and bent down to her sisters height
"I'm 5 now" Poppy said, her arms behind her back she attempted to stand up as tall as you could
"Wow" Embry said, laughing
"I did a picture for you" poppy said, jumping up and down "come and see come and see"
"Okay, okay" poppy take Embry by the hand and lead her through the door and into the living room. Scattered across the floor were pens, pencils and screwed up pieces of paper. But specially kept was a pink drawing on the couch.
"For you, for you" Poppy squealed still jumping up and down
"Poppy this is very good" Embry smiled, looking down at the stick man figure with a large, drawn on smile
