I get to my car in this four story parking lot. It is a dreary day on this spring afternoon. I just finished my day at work in the large office building I go to every week for 6 days straight at a time. The experience has recently been getting to me, though.
My keys slip and fall to the ground as I fumble around for them in my coat. I bend over to reach them. Stiff back and all. I think about the time my father came home from work. Getting out of his car and telling me about the exciting things he did that day.
"I climbed Mount Everest! Then went scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef!" He said as he handed me a pouch full of small coral and pebbles, too young to realize that the stories were simply tall tales. I woke up the next morning to hear from my mother that he had left us. Now I wonder, "where did he go? What ever happened to his saying, "family sticks together!""What did family mean to him?
These questions bring me back to reality as I stare into the window of my car gazing into the eyes like those of a man who was once my hero.
