Promises
It was lunch time already, and the cafeteria was packed. It was a zoo! Seriously there were lions also known as the football players, the monkeys are the choir and band students. Next we have the giraffes which are all basketball athletes, also we have cheetahs that represent track and field, and finally we have the elusive turtle, that qualifies for the technolical advanced kids. That's my interpretation of what is currently happening. People were everywhere, it is utter chaos; the lines contained about 50 people, and there are around 10 lines. Five hundred hormonal teenagers were staving, and the only thing standing in their way were each other. Scary right?
Hannah and I were trying to pick the shortest line to enter to get food, when I hear my name being screamed at the top of someone's lungs. It must have been pretty loud, to be heard over the roar of the cafeteria. I turn my head right to locate the caller, but all I see are a bunch of tables containing hungry people trying to scarf down their food before the bell rings. I try my luck looking left, but as I'm scanning the crowd I see the same thing as when I was looking right. Until I spot Emmett and Jack; his best friend since second grade, jumping up and down, like the morons they are. I grab Hannah's hand so we don't get separated, and lead her over to the table that is currently occupying Jack and my brother.
Once we sit down I notice that the boys already managed to get lunch, so I steal a handful of fries off of Jack's plate, all he does to retaliate is shrugs, and scoots the rest of the tray over to Hannah and I to eat. While we are eating Emmett and Jack get in a heated discussion about he upcoming football game. When I have had enough fries I give the rest to Hannah, who welcomes them with open arms. Now I'm curious to know what has them so worked up about the game this Saturday. So me being me I just opened my mouth and asked. Emmett gave me a look of annoyance for inturupting them, but Jack didn't care, he just enlightened me on the subject they were conversing about.
"Well Emmett and I were talking about Parker Reed." Jack said. I didn't miss the glare Emmett shot him. Jake just smirked at me.
"The one Emmett hates?" they nod at my question.
"Then why would you be wasting your breath talking about someone who you despise so much?" I direct the question towards Emmett.
"Well were talking about how the Eagles have a tough defense, and how....," I tune out, the talk of football just triggers something in me, and my mind goes blank. You know when your parents ever say, " back when I was a kid..", or " did you know when I was a kid...". You automatically tune out. Well it's the same for me, except the sentences usually start with, "At football practice...," or "During the game tonight...". You see I grew up with two older brothers, Nick and Emmett. Nick is a quarterback at Ohio State, playing for the Buckeyes, and Emmett dreams of going to Stanford. My two dorky siblings got their love of football from my dad. In my dad's college days he was the best of the best, until he tore his ACL; during the final game of the season. Now he rides my brothers to their breaking point, trying to make them the best. Boy are they, Nick and Emmett brought the championship title to our school seven times, and hopefully this year makes eight for Emmett.
My pervious thought came back to me about Parker Reed really being so bad. As I focus back on to the conversation that's occurring in front of me, I realize that it came to a stop, and both sets of eyes were glued to me.
"What?" I ask with a glare.
"Is Parker Reed that bad?" Emmett asked in a girly tone of voice, but the way he said Parker's name like it left a bad taste in his mouth.
"What do you mean?"
"You ask the question out loud genius." My lovely brother said in a very sarcastic tone.
"Ohh okay", I could feel my face heat up, and small blush graced my cheeks, but I still was curious about Parker. " Well..?"
"Well what Al?" Emmett sharply cut off my question.
"Well is Parker Reed really that bad, moron?"
"Yes , Yes he is, for starters he's a womanizer, man-whore, and he doesn't give a shit about anyone but himself, you know how I feel about those type of people." He lectured me. " And even though you haven't met him, I don't want you around people like him," I open my mouth to tell him he as no right to tell me what the hell to do. He cuts me off, before I can cuss him out, "and even though you probably will chew me up, and hand me my ass on a silver platter for attempting to tell you what to do," Damn he knew me so well, "but please sis for me." He asked with his killer puppy eyes, that usually work on getting him out of every almost-argument or argument.
"Yes, I know about your feelings and thoughts on those types of people, so I will try my best to follow your requests." I tell him seriously.
The suffocating silence that fell over our lunch table was torturous. We all made eye contact and busted out in laughter. Once we started to settle down, then we all made eye contact once again, and our laughing fit started all over again. The strange looks we got from all the neighboring tables just added fuel to the fire; and our laughter got louder.
Once we finally settled down, Hannah and I moved to the discussion of dress shopping, for the dance that's coming up. While the boys continued to talk about football. We have decided to go today after school; to try and find are dresses for the dance, but the problem is we don't know the theme. I wonder who knows.
"Hey moron!"
"Yes pain in the ass?" Emmett asked me; with as much sarcasm as he can muster.
"I was wondering if you knew the theme of the dance? You are going correct?"
"Of course I'm going....", I roll my eyes he's probably going with one of the whores of the school. " ... And the theme I believe it's masquerade".
I was confused since that was a pretty stupid choice for a back to school dance. I mean how are we suppose to get to know each other when we have masks covering our face?!?!
I turn to Hannah, and she has the same look I probably have upon my face; the look of confusion and stupidity.
"What's so hard to understand about masquerade themed"
"What do you mean?" I ask my delinquent brother.
"Well Tweddle Dee and Twiddle Dumb, you have the look of confusion graced upon your facial features." He explained with the over use of sarcasm.
What's his deal today with the sarcasm? And 'graced upon your facial features'? Who in the hell says that? Next I did the only mature thing that came to mind. I turned my head towards Hannah and ignore him. I could hear the chuckles of him and Jack, I chose to be the bigger person. Heck when am I ever the bigger person? That's right never! Right when I opened my mouth to say something, I'll probably regret later on; the lunch bell cut me off. I huff out my annoyance. Hannah grabs my hand to help me up, and we scurry to class. Talking about what type of dresses we are looking for when we go shopping later.
