It's the first day of my senior year of high school, September 12th. I suppose I'm going to be cliché, and tell you I'm excited, and this is a new year and everything is going to change, but in reality nothing is going to change and I'll be the same old Allison, stuck with the same over-protective brother that won't let me do anything that has anything remotely to do with boys or fun. I guess I'm wrong in one aspect, I'm determined to have some fun this year.
"Earth to Allison." I'm broken out of my thoughts by my best friend, Hannah, starring at me.
"What?" I respond.
"I was wondering what you were thinking about, you looked like you were in deep thought."'she stated with a small worry line on her forehead. She looks from the road to me then back to the road.
"All I was thinking about was how this year is going to be different...." Hannah opens her mouth to add something, but I beat her to it, "And before you interrupt with your cliché nonsense, I mean I'm going to take control of my last year of high school, and your going to help me, of course being my best friend and all." I continued with a small smile on my face.
"I don't know Al, what kind of fun are you thinking of, because I don't want to deal with stick up his ass Emmet all year long, because someone has eyes for his little sister." She tells me with a small giggle but you could tell she's serious.
"I know Han, but I can deal with Emmett, plus he's only older by two minutes." I tell her honestly.
As we enter the school parking lot I see Emmett and his football buddies standing in the courtyard. As soon we enter the parking lot Emmett's eyes are on us, and his natural happy go lucky expression changes to anger and frustration.
"Well Al, if you can handle him; there you go. You get to deal with him at his finest; And whatever did you do to piss him off so much?". Hannah asks me with a small chuckle.
~FLASHBACK~
It was around 10:00 at night, and I was sitting in Austin's car; a boy I work with. He gave me a ride home, because my piece of crap car decided that today of all days it wasn't going to start. Austin being Austin saw a damsel in distress, and gave me a lift home. I was going to call Emmett, but my phone was dead; because Apple has such good battery life on their products. When we arrived at my standard two story house, I was just about to thank Austin once again, for the inconvenience. The next thing I remember Emmett is storming out of the house, ripping the door of the blue Honda wide open. Next he started yelling profanities at Austin; telling him to stay away from me. Austin was white as a ghost, he looked like he shît his pants. Emmett grabbed me by the arm and dragged me to the house, he slammed our front door with so much force it shook the whole house.
~FLASHBACK OVER~
He hasn't spoken to me since, and it's been two days. I guess he hasn't gotten over the incident. Realizing I haven't answered, I shrug and tell her it's just Emmett being Emmett, with a small chuckle. Hannah just giggled and gave me a sympathetic smilie. Together we got out of her small, red, Toyota; and went to face the thunder, better known as my brother. Once we crossed the parking lot, and walk up to my brother and his posse. I gave him my innocent smile, the one I usually give him when he's ever mad at me for some ridiculous reason. And it worked like a charm.
Just as it always does, his cold exterior melted away, and he was back to his happy self. He wrapped me up in a huge bear hug, squishing me to death, and saying that he could never be mad at his little sister for long. I mutter under my breath that he's only older by two minutes. He just gives me a look, and the boys around us just laugh.
"Your always going to be my little sister Al..." He was going to say more but the warning bell; that's telling us to get to class, interrupted his train of thought.
"What class do you have first?" Hannah and Emmett ask me at simultaneously. They look at each other and laugh, like its the funniest thing in the whole darn world.
" Well I have..," I take a quick peak at my schedule, "geometry" I stated with a groan. Well that ruined my semester, I have to get up from my comfy bed, drag myself through hell; aka getting ready, then sit through geometry for an hour the first thing every morning. That just freaking perfect.
"Don't fret, Al, I have geometry too!! With Sprenger right? We can suffer together!" Hannah tells me with little to no enthusiasm as much as possible.
"Yep that's the one. We should get going, if we want to make it to class on time." I tell her, she quickly agrees, and we head towards class. We found two seats close to each other and I pulled out my notebook and pencil, to get ready to take notes down.I can't help but over hear conversations about the back to school dance that's coming up, and the homecoming football game; against our rivals; the Golden Eagles. The rivalry between our two schools is actually ridiculous; it's like the Montague and the Capulet's from Romeo and Juliet.
Emmett and the Eagles quarterback; I believe his name is Parker Reed, have had a rivalry between the two of them since the first day of preschool preschool. I don't know why, I guess they just had a mutual feeling of hatred towards each other. Have you ever meet someone and you automatically disliked them for some known reason? Well I think that's the case with those two. I've never met Parker, but he couldn't be that bad could he?
My attention was pulled back down to earth, and forcing me to focus on the brutal task a head of me; math.
Somewhere in the back of my head I couldn't help wonder if Parker Reed is as bad as people; including my brother make him out to be.
