"Dr.pepper"

"Ok, I'll be back in about five to take your order."

Alice's pov

I pick up the menu and observe.

Linguine With Shrimp & Clams

Tuna Nicoise Salad

Overglazed French Onion Soup

Calamari & Shrimp Fritto Misto

I dont want to eat anything that i cant pronounce, or that looks back at me. I run my finger all the way Dow the list until I hit sandwiches.

Bingo.

Double cheeseburger.

The woman walks over to the table and pulls out the note pad from her apron.

"What may I get you guys?"

Mom goes first.

"I'll have the Lobster Bucatini."

Woah, she's brave.

Then Josh goes.

"I'll have a cheese burger with fries."

Then me.

"I'll have the same."

"Ok, it'll be about a fifteen minute wait." She gathers up our menus and walks away.

"So, how did you guys meet?" Mom shifts in her chair.

"At the record store you told me about." I grin at mom.

"Oh really."

"Yeah. I work there while I'm not on tour."

"That's nice. I used to work in a record store, when they were cool. Your dad was a cool musician with to many tattoos to count. He would come in and flirt with me and of course I liked the attention. I should have known he was no good." Mom brushes her bangs out of her face as she speaks.

"I promise I'm not a 'cool' musician."
Josh smiles.

Of course that sends mom into a fit of laughter.

"Josh quit making her laugh, she's going to get a hernia." I laugh.

"I didn't even know what I said was that funny." He whispers back in my ear.

"Oh my, young kids these days."

I spot the waiter walking back with two treys of food, balancing them like a circus act.

"Two burgers." she sets them down in front of Josh and I.

"And lobster." She sets a hole lobster in front of mom. Eyes and all.

Gross.

Me and Josh dig in and mom, like most mothers do, takes her sweet time.

I don't even want to talk about what she had to do to eat that lobster.

"Yummy." She states.

I look over at Josh, who has mustard dripping down his chin.

"Here."

He looks over at me and l wipe the yellow off his beard with my napkin.

"Thanks." He says with a mouth full of food.

After he realizes what he did he rushes to cover his mouth.

I laugh and drop a pickle on my lap.

Which of course gets mom laughing.

Soon enough the hole table is roaring with laughter and the other tables around us are trying to figure out if we're mentality stable.

I don't think we are.

"Sweetie, pick the pickle off your dress."

I pick it up and shove it in my mouth.

"I meant throw it away, but that's OK too."

Josh just grins. Before you know it the clock strikes six and the street lights illuminate the dark path.

I spot a happy couple walking their dogs down the street. It's such a lovely view. I wish I could stay like this forever.

But all good things must come to an end.

The waiter comes to the table with the check and Josh pulls out his card.

"No josh, its ok I can pay." Mom pulls out hers.

"No, I insist on paying. My treat."

He hands the woman the card and she swipes it on the little device.

"Thank you guys for coming to lindeys! Merry Christmas!"

We all get up and make our journey to the side walk.

Of course Josh opens our doors.

Mom let's me sit in the front. On the way back me and Josh hold hands, not saying a word.

I think we've both came to terms that this is our last day.

We pull into the hotel parking lot.

"I've got the door Josh. You guys can have a little time alone."

Mom gets out and makes her way to the door.

"I-i don't want to say goodbye." My voice cracks, from the tears threatening to stain my face.

"Then don't."

"Meet me at the airport at nine, I'll say goodbye then." The tear finally finds its way out.

I kiss him on the cheek.

In one move I open the door and get out of the car.
