Chapter one

• Erin Bowe•

I woke up to the hellish sounds of my alarm clock; I slammed my hand on the off button. The bedside table jerked with my sudden force towards it, but it was that time of morning where The house could be on fire and I wouldn't give a rats ass. Then as teenager-y as possible I covered my face with my blue comforter, and groaned while doing so. I then reluctantly got up and headed to the bathroom. Thankfully, mom had decided to let me have my own bathroom, thus stopping the daily arguments with my 17 year old twin brother. Ah, first world problems. After closing the off-white door, I stripped off my pajama shirt and shorts then hopped into the porcelain shower. Turning the water temperature hot enough till the brink of hurting, I let the water wash off my morning haze. I soon lumbered out of the shower, and got dressed. Going with my usual green blouse and blue skinny jeans, I walked back into the grayish bathroom. I started to paint on my face and tame my mane of brown curls. Afterwards, I inspected my handiwork. The person staring back at me in the mirror had a newly blemish free ovalish face, a button nose, hazel eyes, and a neat mop of brown curls. Satisfied, I walked out my bathroom and grabbed my heavy ass backpack. "Come on little bro, we have to go!", I called at the bottom of the stairs. "Hey! I'm only five minutes younger than you, and never call me "bro again!", he retorted jokingly. "Five minutes is all I need.", I said to Jace's smug oblong face. His auburn hair framed his green eyes and perfect nose, damn why did he get the pretty genes. He sarcastically sighed and headed for the door, I trailing behind him.
Finally, today is the day Mr. Lank assigns the big and power grade deciding history project of the final semester. Theme Ancient Greece. And for a Greek mythology nerd like myself this is pretty damn exciting. Wow, Erin keep it in your pants. "Okay class as you know your final history project of the year will consist of a ten page essay, alongside a twenty page PowerPoint. Your partner will be assigned and posted today, and you two will work together for the last semester of this year. I expect no complaint about your partner... Now SCRAM!", Mr. Lank said laughing as the whole class dashed to see who their partner was. Personally I didn't care who mine was, I already know I'm doing all the work. I decided to walk up to the poster when the crowd died down. The walk to the front of the room was short but strange, Rebecca (the hot girl) glared at me the way there. Then with sudden realization my stomach dropped. To check my hypothesis, I scanned the list and sure enough right next to my name was the one and only James Blue. NOOOO! Of course I get the guy that can make anyone look like a potato if they stand next to him. Well universe I can't lie, ya got me this time.
RING RING, the end of school bell sounded and instantly an undying herd of teenagers stormed out of the room. As I too walked out of the room, I felt a hand on my shoulder. And cue me dropping my books. "Well damn Erin I didn't think you were this clumsy.", a joking voice said. I paused then looked up to see Blue himself. I tried not to blush, but my body betrayed me. "Anyway what I was going to say before you dropped your whole life on the floor,", he started laughing at every
word. All I could do was sarcastically glare. " was that I kinda need your number for this whole project thing.". I raised my eye brow at him. " Yeah, yeah take it all in the James Blue is asking for your number.", he said in a cocky tone, as he bent over to pick up the last of my books. I scowled at him, but quickly wrote down my phone number on a post-it note. I then stuck it on his forehead. This is gonna be one hell of a partner ship.
