In the words of the great Carol Burnett, "We don't stop going to school when we graduate", we never stop learning, we never stop changing, life itself is one massive lesson, our valedictorian Emile Hastings said as she closed her speech addressing my fellow classmates and i, as we all faced the reality that such an important chapter of our lives had just ended. I glance over at my best friend, soon to be roommate Kiomi Meyer, and we both knew what the other was thinking, we knew this wasn't the end for us, but for everyone else it was.
As our names get called and we crossed the stage we are all emotional, and ready to get the forecoming parties started. I go speak to my family, and get ready go to Kiomi's for her party, and then we're going to mine later that night. As we leave the gym where graduation was held, kiomi and i finalize all the Details of our move to Los Angeles, the city of dreamers, we Already found our apartment and jobs, we know why we're going even though everyone else thinks we're crazy. We walk to Kiomi's car, and head to her house. Upon our arrival, all of Kiomi's family and my parents were there, we get out and go inside and begin enjoying ourselves, about 4 hours later the party dwindled and we go to my place, for my party.
My parents, Kiomi, her parents and I get to my place to start getting ready for my party, a little later all of our friends, who were all at Kiomi's house to, get there and we kick off the awesome night. 11pm rolled around quickly and everyone left except Kiomi and our other close friends Raegan, Juan, Hanna, Lee, Cate, and Cierra. all of our close friends had our sad last hangout session, and got really emotional, and we all then realized this wasn't an ending it was just another open door for all of our friendships to go into, and start again, we all made a pact during freshman year to never let distance come between the greatest friends any of us had ever had, we promised to never let go of the bond we build, and with Kiomi and I moving across the country it was a good thing we did. We all knew we would see each other at Thanksgiving and Christmas and maybe during the summer, as we all hugged in our notorious giant circle, and just stayed there for 5 minutes all thinking about memories, all crying over this amazing journey that had now officially ended.
I don't believe in ending, just chapters, as one closes another one picks up where it left off. High School years were the best 4 years of my life, I met people I'll never forget, and some I wish I could. The one thing I'll always remember about High School, is the memories this group of friends made, and I am forever grateful for them. High School was also only a chapter, there will be another chapter and whether it starts tomorrow or next year depends on when we let ourselves realize that what we have will never change. We all head home, or in my case, my box filled room and try to push my thoughts into the back of my mind enough to get sleep, not like I'm moving tomorrow or anything, which was kinda hard to do, when all that is around you, is empty walls, boxes and your phone. I go take some sleeping pills, and fall asleep almost instantly.
