I had lived most of the life I could remember in an orphanage. It wasn't until I was at least ten that the caretaker finally told me why. One night when my parents were out and I was being babysat, their car was hit head-on by a semi-truck with its lights out. This had only made me feel more lonely, now that the hope that my parents would come back for me was eradicated. I had no siblings there with me, no grandparents, aunts, or uncles to take care of me, and not a good friend in the orphanage.
I was completely alone.

Month after month I felt worse and worse as family after family came through without even asking my name. By the time I was thirteen, the caretaker had finally called a psychiatrist, and I was diagnosed with anxiety, and depression.
I was nearly considering ending the loneliness and pain until a rather odd looking couple had come, and for once, they came to me first. Lucifer was the man and Amira was the woman. They were kind, and caring, if a bit...strange. But I couldn't stop looking at their gold eyes. They were just like a wolf's...
When they approached me with soft smiles, they asked my name, and a bit about me. They comforted me when I broke down after telling them how I wound up here. They even wanted to adopt me. I couldn't believe it, I was so excited, so happy, so relieved.
After a few days of them taking me out to lunch in their simple black sedan and getting to know me, they picked me up in the afternoon. We got some food on the way as they drove me to a courthouse a few miles away, closer to the massive forest that bordered the city. It took a few hours, possibly longer than it would have taken if my soon-to-be parents had a lawyer, but they won. I was their son, and none of us could stop grinning as we walked out to the car. They both hugged me tightly, with surprising strength. But as we got into the car, I noticed them give each other uneasy looks as Lucifer checked the time on an old watch. But I didn't much care. I had a family now.
